Wind farm Lönhult, located in Aneby municipality, is nearing commissioning and is scheduled to begin operating at the end of November. The facility consists of four Vestas V162 turbines, each with a capacity of 6.2 MW and a total height of 206 meters.
Four Turbines Nearly Ready in Aneby Municipality
Once operational, the wind farm is expected to produce around 80 GWh of electricity per year, equivalent to the annual household electricity consumption of approximately 15,000 homes.
The project is owned by Rabbalshede Kraft, which will remain the long-term owner of the wind farm throughout its lifetime. According to the company, Lönhult is one of only a few wind farms being built in Sweden in 2026.
A Lengthy Path from Plan to Construction
The site was identified as suitable for wind power in the Aneby municipality's wind power plan, and the municipality approved the project in 2016. Rabbalshede Kraft took over the development in 2018, and after a lengthy permitting process, final permits for four wind turbines were granted in 2022. Construction began in 2025 and is now in its final stages.
Kanonaden AB served as the civil works contractor and made extensive use of local labour during the construction phase.

NKT Signs a Ten-Year Power Purchase Agreement
One third of the electricity produced by the wind farm will be purchased by NKT Cables under a ten-year power purchase agreement (PPA). The renewable energy will support NKT's production site in Falun, Sweden, and forms part of the company's strategic efforts to advance decarbonisation across its value chain and own operations.
"Sourcing renewable electricity directly from a local wind farm is a concrete way to advance our decarbonisation ambitions while also supporting renewable energy development in the region," said Anthony Abbotts, VP and Head of Group Sustainability at NKT.
"Decarbonisation requires action across the entire value chain, and long-term renewable electricity sourcing is an important part of this work. It also contributes to our customers' efforts to decarbonise their supply chains. A PPA provides a credible, long-term framework for making that progress."
Completed Amid High Barriers for New Wind Projects
The completion of Lönhult stands out against a difficult backdrop for Swedish wind power. Since 2019, 70% of new wind power projects have been rejected, either through municipal vetoes or during the permitting process. In 2025, the rejection rate reached 93%, with municipalities rejecting 43 of 46 applications.
Peter Wesslau, CEO of Rabbalshede Kraft, described the significance of the milestone. "Completing Lönhult is particularly significant at a time when few new wind power projects receive permits, and even fewer are actually built.
The wind farm will make an important contribution to renewable electricity generation in southern Sweden, where the need for new electricity is considerable as a result of electrification and the transition of industry."
Local Funding through Utvecklingskraft Initiative
Through Rabbalshede Kraft's Utvecklingskraft initiative, USD 6,066.41 per year will be set aside for local projects in the Lönhult area. The funding is intended to support initiatives that strengthen local associations, outdoor recreation, or the natural and cultural environment. Examples cited include a school outing, a barbecue area, a playground, or a floodlit trail.
The first application period is open until 4 January 2027, with more information available on Rabbalshede Kraft's website.
Stay Ahead of Sweden's Power Grid Transformation
Sweden's power sector is moving fast; offshore wind clusters in the North Sea, grid interconnectors linking national markets, and massive renewable integration programs are reshaping the energy landscape. But how do you know which projects are real, funded, and moving forward?
