Lhyfe plans to build an 800 MW green hydrogen facility in Lubmin, Germany, making it one of the largest green hydrogen projects in the federal state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. In a press release, Lhyfe stated that they will commission the plant by 2029, with the capacity to produce 330 metric tons of green hydrogen per day.

The Lubmin plant will integrate into the German core hydrogen pipeline network. The German government recently announced a USD 20 billion financing plan for the hydrogen network, supporting the construction of a 9700-kilometre-long pipeline network designed to transport hydrogen across Europe.

Lhyfe will strategically position some of its green hydrogen production units near the European Hydrogen Backbone (EHB). Through this strategy, Lhyfe aims to serve a wide array of customers throughout Europe. The Lubmin plant is a key part of Lhyfe's strategy to become a leading producer of green hydrogen in Europe. The company is also developing green hydrogen production plants in FranceSpain and other parts of Europe. Recently, the company secured call for proposals for a project in France

Luc Graré, Head of Central and Eastern Europe at Lhyfe, stated that building a green hydrogen plant in Europe is a long-term project, and Lubmin meets all the requirements to establish itself as a sustainable center for green hydrogen in the long term. Furthermore, constructing the plant on the site of a decommissioned nuclear power plant enhances its environmental friendliness.

About Lhyfe

Lhyfe Energy

Lhyfe is one of the largest green hydrogen-producing companies in France. Green hydrogen is produced using renewable energy sources, such as solar and wind power, to split water into hydrogen and oxygen. This process produces zero emissions, making it a clean and sustainable alternative to fossil fuels. Lhyfe's hydrogen can be used for a variety of applications, including transportation, industry, and power generation.

About the European Hydrogen Network

The European Hydrogen Backbone (EHB) is a proposed network of hydrogen pipelines that would connect production, storage, and consumption centers across Europe. The EHB is envisioned as a critical piece of infrastructure for the transition to a low-carbon economy, as it would enable the transport of large volumes of hydrogen over long distances.

More than 30 energy infrastructure operators from across Europe are in charge of the EHB initiative. The group has developed a vision paper that outlines the potential benefits of the EHB as well as a roadmap for its development. The EHB is expected to provide a number of benefits, including:

  • Accelerated decarbonization: The EHB would enable the transport of hydrogen to hard-to-decarbonize sectors, such as heavy industry and transportation. This would help to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and achieve the European Union's climate goals.
  • Increased energy security: The EHB would diversify Europe's energy sources and reduce its reliance on imported fossil fuels. This would make Europe more resilient to energy shocks and supply disruptions.
  • Economic growth: The EHB would create new jobs and businesses in the hydrogen sector. It would also support the development of new hydrogen-based technologies
