The equipment offers exceptional flexibility and thermal stability, positioning L&T at the forefront of electrolyzer technology. In the weeks ahead, the electrolyzer will undergo rigorous testing to optimize its performance, laying the foundation for mass production.

L&T Electrolysers Limited, a newly established arm of L&T, specializes in manufacturing pressurized alkaline electrolyzers, leveraging technology from McPhy Energy, France. The company has pioneered the complete value chain from engineering to manufacturing, collaborating closely with Indian vendors and suppliers. This collaborative effort sets a benchmark for "Make in India" initiatives and ensures product localization and quality control at every production stage.

Looking ahead, L&T Electrolysers aims to capitalize on its upcoming giga-scale facility in Hazira to meet the surging demand for green hydrogen. By strengthening local supply chains and embracing automation, the company seeks to enhance cost-competitiveness and solidify its position as a global leader in electrolyzer manufacturing.

Mr. Subramanian Sarma, full-time director & senior EVP (energy) at L&T, commented, “The indigenously manufactured electrolyzer signifies a transformative leap towards clean energy, positioning us to lead not only in the domestic market but also globally.” His statement reflects L&T's unwavering commitment to driving innovation and sustainability in the energy sector.

About Green Hydrogen Plant in Hazira

The Green Hydrogen Plant in Hazira is a project by Larsen & Toubro (L&T) at their AM Naik Heavy Engineering Complex in Gujarat, India. A battery-powered energy storage system (BESS) and a rooftop solar plant both contribute to the plant's power. This helps to ensure that the plant is using renewable energy to produce hydrogen.

The plant is also notable because it uses both alkaline and PEM electrolysis technologies. This allows the plant to be more efficient and adaptable to different operating conditions.

The initial phase of the project involved the installation of a 380 kW alkaline electrolyzer, which can produce 15 metric tons of hydrogen per year. The plant is also designed to accommodate a future expansion of up to 1.2 MW of electrolysis capacity. The hydrogen produced at the plant is being used for captive consumption in L&T's Hazira manufacturing complex.
