JX Advanced Metals Corporation, led by President Hayashi Yoichi, has decided to introduce new recycling equipment at the Tatebayashi Plant in Tatebayashi, Gunma Prefecture, and the Nasu Plant in Nasushiobara, Tochigi Prefecture.

The announcement, dated October 28, 2026, states that both facilities are operated by JX Advanced Metals Coil Center Co., Ltd., whose president is Uehara Masayoshi.

Investment Expands Semiconductor Sputtering Target Recycling

The investment is intended to promote the recycling of sputtering targets used in the formation of interconnects in advanced semiconductors.

The new equipment will handle processes such as cutting and cleaning used sputtering targets, allowing the company to further expand recycling initiatives it has already been pursuing with its customers.

A Leader in Sputtering Targets for Advanced Semiconductors

The JX Advanced Metals Group's semiconductor sputtering targets are widely used in the manufacture of cutting-edge logic and memory semiconductors that support the advancement of artificial intelligence.

The Group supplies sputtering targets made from a wide variety of metals, including copper and tantalum, which are essential for forming the fine interconnects of advanced semiconductors, as well as titanium, tungsten, and cobalt.

According to the company, the Group holds a world-leading market share in each of these product categories.

Growing Demand and the Need for Stable Raw Material Supply

Demand for semiconductor sputtering targets is growing in line with the expansion of the semiconductor market, and the Group is increasing its production capacity to meet this demand.

To respond reliably to growing demand, the company says it is essential to secure a stable supply of the metals used as raw materials for these products.

Accordingly, the Group is developing a vertically integrated supply chain encompassing the entire process from raw material procurement through manufacturing.

In recent years, the Group has also been working with customers to collect and recycle used sputtering targets, and the newly announced equipment is intended to build on that foundation.

Environmental and Supply Security Goals

Through the investment, the Group says it will promote the effective use of finite metal resources, reduce environmental impact across the entire supply chain, and further strengthen its system for ensuring stable supply.

The move ties together the company's resource efficiency objectives with its commitment to meeting rising demand for advanced semiconductor materials.

Outlook

Going forward, the Group says it will continue to promote recycling in collaboration with its customers and further strengthen its vertically integrated supply chain.

Through these efforts, the company aims to ensure the long-term, stable supply of advanced materials and contribute to the sustainable development of the semiconductor industry.

Gain an Edge in the Japanese Semiconductor Boom

Why do some semiconductor companies consistently land the most lucrative fabrication contracts while others scramble for scraps? The difference often comes down to timing and having the right intelligence before your competitors do. As Japan cements its position as the world's chip manufacturing epicenter, the opportunities are enormous, but only for those who can spot them early.

The Global Project Tracking (GPT) platform by Blackridge Research delivers real-time visibility into semiconductor projects across Japan, from new fab constructions and expansion plans to equipment procurement cycles and government-backed investments.

Whether you are an equipment supplier, materials provider, contractor, or investor, staying ahead of the project pipeline is no longer optional; it is the foundation of sustainable growth in this capital-intensive industry.
