Iberdrola Locks In 10-Year Renewable Energy Deal With Italian Retailer Pam Panorama

Iberdrola's (renewable energy company) Italian subsidiary has signed a long-term Power Purchase Agreement with Pam Panorama, one of Italy's leading retail groups, committing to supply 1,000 gigawatt hours of certified renewable electricity over the course of a decade.

Details of the Agreement

The deal, announced, will see Iberdrola Italia deliver renewable electricity across Pam Panorama's retail network under a 10-year PPA. The electricity supplied through the agreement will be generated by Iberdrola Fenix, described as the company's largest solar plant in Italy.

The arrangement covers the full supply of certified renewable electricity, giving Pam Panorama a traceable and long-term source of clean power for its operations.

Power Purchase Agreements of this nature allow large energy consumers such as retailers to secure electricity directly from renewable generators over extended periods, providing price stability and enabling companies to make verifiable claims about their use of clean energy.

The certification component of this deal means Pam Panorama will be able to demonstrate to regulators, investors, and customers that the electricity powering its stores originates from a specific renewable source.

Environmental Impact

Iberdrola has stated that the agreement will prevent the emission of more than 38,300 tonnes of carbon dioxide per year. To put that figure in context, the company says this is equivalent to the annual electricity consumption of approximately 40,300 households.

Over the full 10-year term of the contract, the cumulative emissions avoided would represent a significant reduction in the carbon footprint associated with Pam Panorama's retail operations.

The scale of the environmental benefit reflects both the volume of electricity covered by the agreement and the nature of the generation source. With 1,000 gigawatt hours committed over the contract period, the deal represents a substantial offtake from the Iberdrola Fenix solar facility, which serves as the backbone of the arrangement.

Iberdrola's Position in Italy

Iberdrola has described Italy as a strategic market for the group, and the Pam Panorama agreement is positioned as a further step in strengthening its foothold in the country.

The company has framed its Italian operations around the development of competitive, traceable, and long-term renewable energy solutions, with a particular emphasis on supporting electrification across the economy.

The Iberdrola Fenix plant, as the company's largest solar installation in Italy, plays a central role in that strategy. By anchoring this PPA to a single, identifiable facility, Iberdrola is able to offer Pam Panorama a direct and auditable link between the electricity it consumes and the renewable source from which it is generated.

This traceability is increasingly important to large corporations operating under sustainability commitments and facing growing scrutiny from regulators and consumers alike.

Iberdrola Italia operates as the Italian subsidiary of the broader Iberdrola Group, which has been expanding its renewable energy infrastructure across European markets.

Italy, with its strong solar irradiation levels and ongoing energy transition, represents a significant opportunity for utility-scale photovoltaic development, and agreements such as this one provide the long-term revenue certainty that can underpin further investment in generation capacity.

Pam Panorama's Energy Transition

Pam Panorama is identified in the agreement announcement as one of Italy's leading retail groups. The 10-year duration of the PPA signals a significant commitment on the retailer's part to sourcing its electricity from renewable generation over the long term.

For a company operating a retail network across Italy, securing a stable and certified renewable electricity supply at scale addresses both operational energy costs and corporate sustainability objectives.

The retail sector has come under increasing pressure to reduce its environmental impact, and long-term PPAs have emerged as a preferred mechanism for companies seeking to align their energy procurement with decarbonisation goals.

By contracting directly with a generator rather than relying on the standard electricity market, Pam Panorama gains certainty over both the source and, to a degree, the pricing structure of its electricity supply across the duration of the agreement.

Renewable Energy Supply Structure

The 1,000 gigawatt hours committed under the agreement will be drawn from Iberdrola Fenix, the solar plant Iberdrola has identified as its largest in Italy. Photovoltaic generation of this scale underlines the growing role that utility-grade solar infrastructure is playing in Italy's electricity mix, as the country works to expand its renewable capacity in line with European Union energy and climate targets.

The use of a certified renewable electricity supply structure ensures that each unit of electricity delivered to Pam Panorama carries documentation confirming its renewable origin.

This certification mechanism provides the retailer with the evidence base needed to substantiate claims about the green credentials of its energy consumption, which is increasingly relevant under European sustainability reporting requirements.
