Hydrogen Council Adds Six Members Across Global Industry

The Hydrogen Council, the world's largest and only CEO-led global hydrogen alliance, announced on September 29, 2026 that six new members have joined the organisation: Acwa, EcoLog, Hydrom, Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, TANAKA, and 2JCP. The announcement, made from Brussels, marks an expansion of the Council's geographic representation to nearly 30 countries, including its first members in Oman and the Czech Republic.

The new members come from across the hydrogen value chain and bring capabilities spanning industrial manufacturing and system integration, large-scale hydrogen production, market development, infrastructure, and international transport and technology. According to the Council, together they add experience across many of the practical elements needed to connect hydrogen supply with demand and advance deployment at scale.

Ecosystem Over Projects

A key lesson from the Hydrogen Council's new Global Hydrogen Compass 2026, released on September 10, is that hydrogen scales not project by project, but ecosystem-by-ecosystem.

The Council brings together companies from across the full hydrogen value chain, production, infrastructure, transport and demand, and the six new members add expertise across many of those areas, further strengthening the Council's role as a platform for collaboration.

Ivana Jemelkova, CEO of the Hydrogen Council, welcomed the new members with a pointed message about the collective nature of the industry's challenge.

"Hydrogen is a team sport. No single company can build the market alone," she said. "Scaling hydrogen requires companies with different capabilities to work together across the value chain. Our six new members bring valuable experience and perspectives to that collective effort, and we are very pleased to welcome them to the Hydrogen Council."

Acwa: Renewable Hydrogen at Scale in Saudi Arabia

Acwa, represented by CEO Dr. Samir J. Serhan, is a global developer, investor and operator across power, water and renewable hydrogen. Renewable hydrogen is a strategic growth platform for the company, including through its role in the NEOM Green Hydrogen Project and the development of the Yanbu Green Hydrogen Hub in Saudi Arabia.

Acwa's ambition is to produce some of the world's most competitive renewable hydrogen by leveraging high-quality renewable resources, integrated project development and EPC delivery, and its established project-finance capabilities.

EcoLog: Building Liquid Hydrogen Corridors

EcoLog, represented by CEO Ellen Ruhotas, is developing integrated liquid hydrogen midstream solutions connecting production regions with demand centres in Europe and Asia. Its flagship project has two main components. The first is the EcoLog Terminal Amsterdam, designed to import 200,000 tonnes of hydrogen annually in its first phase when operational in 2030, with plans to scale to 600,000 tonnes in a second phase.

Alongside the terminal, EcoLog is developing dedicated liquid hydrogen vessels, drawing on the shipping expertise of its sister company GasLog. By applying an end-to-end value chain approach, EcoLog has been able to build liquid hydrogen corridors linking supply regions such as the Middle East, India, and North and South America to European and Asian offtake markets.

Hydrom: Orchestrating Oman's Green Hydrogen Strategy

Hydrom, represented by Managing Director Eng. Abdulaziz Al Shidhani, serves as the national orchestrator of Oman's Green Hydrogen Strategy execution and renewable hydrogen sector development.

Guided by its vision to position Oman as a leading global renewable hydrogen hub, Hydrom's mission is to create sustainable value for Oman's economy through the development of a competitive and sustainable renewable hydrogen ecosystem.

Its mandate includes advising government on strategy, policy and legal frameworks; delineating government-owned land for hydrogen development; structuring large-scale projects and managing developer allocation processes; and facilitating shared infrastructure and related industries. Hydrom's membership gives the Council its first representation in Oman.

Mitsui O.S.K. Lines: Hydrogen Transport and Demonstration in Japan

Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL), represented by Representative Director and Chairman of the Board Takeshi Hashimoto, is contributing to the development of hydrogen value chains through activities spanning transportation, production, storage, utilisation and delivery. Its initiatives include equity participation in JSE Ocean, which is advancing liquefied hydrogen transportation to Japan, as well as commercial demonstrations of hydrogen use.

Among these demonstrations are a new multi-purpose vessel equipped with a hydrogen dual-fuel engine and hydrogen-powered cargo-handling equipment at container terminals in Kobe.

TANAKA: Decades of Catalyst Expertise

TANAKA, represented by Group CEO Koichiro Tanaka, has developed fuel cell catalysts since the 1980s, building on decades of expertise in precious metal materials and catalyst technologies. The company's long history in precious metals and catalysis positions it within the Council as a contributor of deep materials-science experience relevant to fuel cell deployment.

A Broader Value Chain Under One Roof

The six additions illustrate the Council's stated view that hydrogen deployment depends on connecting capabilities across the full value chain rather than on isolated projects. The new members collectively cover renewable hydrogen production in the Middle East, liquid hydrogen midstream infrastructure linking continents, national-level strategy execution, maritime transport and demonstration, and fuel cell catalyst technology.

With the Council's reach now extending to nearly 30 countries, and entering Oman and the Czech Republic for the first time, the organisation continues to position itself as the global platform where companies with different capabilities can coordinate on scaling hydrogen.

The announcement follows the September 10 release of the Global Hydrogen Compass 2026, whose central lesson, that hydrogen scales ecosystem by ecosystem, the Council frames as the rationale for assembling companies from production, infrastructure, transport and demand under one alliance.

As Jemelkova's remarks make clear, the Council's thesis is that no single company can build the hydrogen market alone; the six new members are, in the Council's framing, the latest proof of that collective effort.

Stay Ahead of the Global Hydrogen Build-Out Before the Contracts Are Signed

The hydrogen economy is scaling fast, but project pipelines move quicker than most stakeholders can track. Electrolyzer plants, green ammonia hubs, and hydrogen storage terminals are being announced, tendered, and awarded across markets worldwide, and missing a single milestone can mean losing a strategic advantage to a better-informed competitor.

The Global Project Tracking (GPT) platform by Blackridge Research gives you a consolidated, real-time view of hydrogen sector developments, from early-stage feasibility studies to commissioning, so your team can act on intelligence rather than react to headlines.

Whether you are an equipment supplier, EPC contractor, investor, or policy strategist, structured project data is the difference between chasing opportunities and anticipating them.
