Suomen Hyötytuuli Oy (a major Finnish wind energy producer and project developer) and Google (a technology company) have announced a long-term Power Purchase Agreement covering electricity generated by the Alajoki-Peuralinna wind farm in central Finland, as part of a broader package of investment plans Google revealed in the country on September 9, 2026.

A Deal Signed in 2024, Now Publicly Revealed

Although the announcement came in September 2026, the PPA between Google and Suomen Hyötytuuli's shareholders was actually signed in 2024. The agreement was structured to enable new clean capacity to be added to Finland's national electricity grid.

The AAlajoki-Peurälänna wind farm, which the deal underpins, has been operational since April 2025 and is now actively contributing to the country's electricity supply. The agreement is managed by Hyötytuuli Services Oy, the operational arm that runs Suomen Hyötytuuli and its wind energy projects.

The timing of the public disclosure coincides with Google announcing broader investment plans in Finland, which include data centers and other supporting energy infrastructure and partnerships located in Hamina, Muhos, Vaala, and Kajaani.

Wind Farm Details: 14 Turbines Across Two Central Finland Municipalities

The Alajoki-Peuralinna wind farm is situated in the municipalities of Perho and Kyyjärvi in central Finland. The facility consists of 14 wind turbines with an estimated annual production capacity of 250 gigawatt-hours

The project represents a significant addition to Finland's renewable energy generation base and is now fully operational, having reached that status in April 2025.

Google's Growing Renewable Footprint in Finland

For Google, the PPA with Suomen Hyötytuuli represents the latest step in what the company describes as a long-standing commitment to clean energy procurement in Finland.

Aris Karcianis, Director of Clean Energy and Power for Europe, the Middle East, and Africa at Google, stated that the company has been present in Finland for fifteen years and has engaged closely with local energy developers throughout that period.

Karcianis said the agreement with Suomen Hyötytuuli brings Google's total contracted renewable capacity in Finland to 629 megawatts. He framed the deal as part of the company's long-term strategy to support affordable and clean energy access as Google expands its operations in the country.

"As we grow our footprint in Finland, bringing new clean capacity online will continue to be a key part of our long-term strategy to ensure access to affordable, clean energy for our Finnish neighbours and customers," Karcianis said.

Suomen Hyötytuuli's Position in the Finnish Wind Market

Suomen Hyötytuuli Oy describes itself as a forerunner in Finnish wind energy. The company currently has ten onshore wind farms either in operation or in test use, as well as one offshore wind farm operating at Tahkoluoto.

Including the Alajoki-Peurälä facility, the company's overall annual production amounts to 1.9 terawatt-hours. Suomen Hyötytuuli also has several additional wind energy projects in development. Both Suomen Hyötytuuli Oy and its operational subsidiary Hyötytuuli Services Oy are owned by eight Finnish city energy companies.

Jaakko Kleemola, CEO of Suomen Hyötytuuli Oy, used the announcement to signal the company's appetite for further PPA agreements. "As one of Finland's largest wind energy operators, we value the role of PPA agreements in facilitating investments in renewable energy.

We are interested in entering into new long-term PPA agreements in the future, thus helping to accelerate Finland's green transition together with our customers," Kleemola said.

Ancillary Services Work Underway to Support Grid Stability

Beyond the core electricity supply arrangement, the two parties have indicated they are now working together on an additional layer of cooperation. Suomen Hyötytuuli and Google are developing ancillary services intended to enable greater operational flexibility for the Alajoki-Peuralinna wind farm.

The stated purpose of this work is to further support the stability and reliability of the Finnish electricity grid, suggesting the partnership extends beyond a straightforward energy procurement arrangement into the domain of grid services.
