Goldwind has signed a cooperation agreement with Inova Elektrik Üretim Sanayi ve Ticaret A.S., the wind energy subsidiary of Gulsan Holding, to supply 13 units of its GW165-6.0 MW HH110 permanent magnet direct-drive wind turbines for an extension of the Metristepe wind farm in Türkiye's Bilecik Province.

Deal Adds 78MW to Longstanding Operational Site

The agreement covers the delivery of 13 turbines, each rated at 6.0 MW, bringing a combined new capacity of 78MW to the Metristepe site. With this extension, the wind farm's total installed capacity rises to 118 MW. Metristepe has been in commercial operation since 2011, when its Phase I came online with an initial capacity of 40 MW, delivering clean energy to the region for more than 15 years before the current expansion was announced.

The site is situated in the hilly terrain of Bilecik Province, a landscape that presents specific operational demands on turbine hardware and reliability systems. The extension project pairs the site's established operating history with Goldwind's direct-drive technology platform.

GW165-6.0MW Platform and PMDD Technology

Goldwind selected the GW165-6.0MW platform for this project, a turbine underpinned by the company's permanent magnet direct-drive, or PMDD, architecture.

According to Goldwind, the platform was chosen for its proven reliability, high capacity factor, and the maturity of the PMDD technology, which the company states is backed by decades of operational experience.

Goldwind further noted that the technology's performance has been validated in climates comparable to Türkiye's, which the company says supports stable operation under turbulent wind conditions. The company cited an availability rate of over 98% as evidence of the platform's long-term reliability credentials.

The GW165 designation refers to the rotor diameter of the turbine, while the HH110 notation indicates a hub height of 110 metres. This combination is intended to maximise energy capture in the kind of complex, hilly terrain characteristic of the Metristepe location.

Inova Elektrik and Gulsan Holding

The counterparty to the agreement, Inova Elektrik Üretim Sanayi ve Ticaret A.S., operates as the wind energy arm of Gulsan Holding. Gulsan Holding is the parent group behind the Metristepe development.

The cooperation agreement formalises the supply relationship between the two companies for the extension project, though specific financial terms of the deal were not disclosed in Goldwind's announcement.

The Metristepe wind farm's Phase I, which entered commercial operation in 2011, has given Inova Elektrik and Gulsan Holding more than a decade of operational data and experience at the site before proceeding with the current capacity expansion. The extension effectively more than doubles the site's original 40 MW capacity, taking it to a total of 118 MW once the new turbines are commissioned.

Goldwind's Presence in the Turkish Market

Goldwind framed the agreement as part of a broader and ongoing relationship with Türkiye's energy sector. The company described the deal as underscoring its enduring partnership with the Turkish energy industry, positioning the turbine supply as contributing to the country's sustainable energy objectives.

The announcement was made under Goldwind's CAMENA regional designation, which covers the Central Asia, Middle East, and North Africa region, indicating that Türkiye sits within that commercial and operational portfolio for the company. Goldwind stated that the deal reflects its commitment to delivering advanced technology in support of Türkiye's energy transition goals.

Goldwind did not disclose a specific commissioning timeline or commercial operation date for the Metristepe extension in its announcement. No details were provided regarding grid connection arrangements, power purchase agreements, or the construction contractor responsible for installing the turbines at the Bilecik Province site.

The cooperation agreement represents one of the more substantial single-site turbine supply commitments Goldwind has publicised in the Turkish market, with the 13-unit order at 6.0 MW per turbine placing the total nameplate capacity of the new supply at 78 MW. Combined with the original 40 MW installation that has been operating since 2011, Metristepe becomes a 118MW facility upon completion of the extension works.
