FTC Solar, Inc. has begun shipping solar tracker systems for the 330-megawatt Fraser Coast solar and 180-megawatt battery storage project in Queensland, Australia, marking a significant milestone for one of the country's largest planned hybrid renewable energy installations.
Project Overview and Developer Background
The Fraser Coast project is being developed by Global Power Generation, known as GPG, the power generation subsidiary of multinational energy company Naturgy Group.
Naturgy operates in more than 20 countries and serves 16 million customers globally. In Australia, Naturgy operates through GPG, in which the group holds a 75 percent majority stake alongside the Kuwait Investment Authority, which holds the remaining 25 percent.
The project is located in the Fraser Coast region of Queensland and is expected to commence operations in 2028. According to GPG, Fraser Coast is Naturgy's largest renewable energy project in Australia and its second hybrid solar and battery storage project in the country. GPG currently manages more than 5.27 gigawatts of installed capacity across eight countries.
Shaq Mohajerani, Chief Development Officer for GPG Australia, described the Fraser Coast project as the largest solar hybrid battery project GPG has ever built in Australia.
He noted that the company has 1.3 gigawatts of renewable energy capacity in operation across Australia, 0.5 gigawatts under construction, and a 2-gigawatt development pipeline in the country.
Mohajerani said the project reflects GPG's long-term commitment to Australia and its support for the energy transition and renewable energy goals set by federal and state governments.
FTC Solar's Tracker Technology
Austin, Texas-based FTC Solar, listed on Nasdaq under the ticker FTCI, is supplying its solar tracker systems for the project. The company was founded in 2017 by renewable energy industry veterans and describes itself as a leading provider of solar tracker systems, technology, software, and engineering services.
For the Fraser Coast project, FTC Solar deployed what it describes as a one-panel, or 1P, terrain-following tracker solution. According to FTC Solar Chief Executive Anthony Carroll, the system's stow capabilities enable shorter foundations and reduced embedment depth, delivering material and labor cost savings. The terrain-following design adapts to natural site contours, reducing land work and preserving site integrity, Carroll said.
David Santo Tomás, Construction Director for GPG Australia, said FTC Solar's terrain-following solution was instrumental in moving the project forward. He stated that the solution enabled GPG to significantly reduce the need for civil work while saving time and costs during installation through what he described as a highly constructible design.

Timeline Revisions and Shipment Status
FTC Solar first announced the project award in March 2025, with tracker production at the time expected to begin in mid-2025. The project timeline was subsequently revised and finalized, with a notice to proceed issued during the second quarter of 2026. Tracker production and shipments are now underway, the company confirmed in its September 8, 2026 announcement.
The aggregate value of the project was added to FTC Solar's backlog in 2025, according to the company.
FTC Solar and GPG's Continued Partnership
The Fraser Coast project represents an ongoing commercial relationship between FTC Solar and GPG Australia. Carroll described working on what he called another great project with GPG, indicating a prior working history between the two companies.
Santo Tomás similarly referenced looking forward to another successful deployment with the FTC team, reinforcing that this is not the first collaboration between the two organizations.
GPG's broader footprint in Australia underscores the scale of its regional ambitions. With 1.3 gigawatts of renewable capacity already operational in the country, 0.5 gigawatts under construction, and a 2-gigawatt pipeline in development, the company has positioned itself as one of the largest renewable energy investors in Australia, according to Mohajerani's statement.
