Fotowatio Renewable Ventures (FRV) has submitted a portfolio of battery energy storage systems (BESS) and solar projects with a combined capacity of 1.8 GW to the UK's Gate 2 Window of the NESO's Connection Reform Process. The submission was made through FRV's majority-owned development platform, FRV Powertek Limited, on November 11, 2025.

All projects in the portfolio are fully permitted and are seeking advanced connection dates before 2030, with proposed connection dates spanning from 2026 to 2029. FRV, a leading developer of sustainable energy solutions and part of Jameel Energy, operates through its majority-owned joint venture platform, FRV Powertek, for this submission.

Major Battery Storage Projects

The portfolio includes several prominent BESS projects, with five major facilities representing the largest components of the submission. The Bicker Fen project accounts for 400 MW of capacity, while both the Stocking Pelham and Stow Manor projects contribute 400 MW each. Two additional projects, Ansty and Maes Melin, each provide 200 MW of battery storage capacity.

Beyond these major installations, the portfolio includes the 50MW / 200MWh Hollybush project and the 50MW / 200MWh Dunbar project. These two facilities have protected connection dates in 2026 and 2027, respectively, providing earlier deployment opportunities within the portfolio.

Hybrid Solar and Storage Integration

The Malice Farm project represents FRV's approach to hybrid renewable energy solutions, combining 50 MW of solar generation with storage. This project demonstrates the integration of multiple renewable technologies within a single installation, representing what the company describes as a step forward in hybrid and flexible solutions.

The combination of solar plants and battery energy storage systems within the portfolio consolidates FRV's position as a key player in the UK energy sector, according to the company's announcement.

FRV's UK Operations and Track Record

The United Kingdom is strategically important to FRV as the location of its first global storage plant, Holes Bay, inaugurated in 2020. Since that initial deployment, FRV has brought three facilities into operation: Holes Bay, Contego, and Clay Tye, achieving a total operational capacity of 140 MW / 280 MWh in the UK market.

This operational portfolio represents FRV's established presence in the UK energy storage sector, providing a foundation for the expanded development pipeline now submitted to the Gate 2 process.

Company Leadership Statements

Tom Guilfoyle, Managing Director of FRV United Kingdom, stated that the UK was where the company began its energy storage journey, and the submission of the pipeline marks a significant milestone. He described the Connection Reform as presenting an unprecedented opportunity to bring fully permitted, low carbon infrastructure online faster, which he characterized as vital to the company's continuing commitment to support a more resilient, decarbonized and efficient electricity grid energy mix to accelerate a path to a secure, net-zero future.

Ravinder Shan, Managing Director of FRV Powertek Limited, explained that the 1.8GW portfolio of projects submitted into the Gate 2 Grid reform process are protected and significantly advanced, and will be ready to build once the company receives firm connection dates from NESO.

Preeti Yardi, Managing Director of FRV Powertek, attributed the projects' level of maturity to the work and commitment of the entire team over the last couple of years, together with the strong commitment of local communities that recognize these projects as vital investment opportunities that will boost local economies.

Strategic Positioning

The submission reinforces FRV's strategic position in the United Kingdom's energy market and reaffirms the company's commitment to the country's energy transition. FRV positions itself as a strategic partner in the deployment of clean and next-generation infrastructure through this portfolio submission.

The portfolio submission to the Gate 2 Window represents FRV's response to the NESO's Connection Reform Process, which provides a pathway for renewable energy projects to secure grid connections. The company's focus on pre-2030 connection dates aligns with the UK's decarbonization timeline and grid modernization efforts.
