FRV Australia has announced the active development of the Rangitīkei solar project in New Zealand's North Island, with a proposed capacity of 210 MWdc and expected annual generation of around 350,000 MWh. The announcement, made on October 27, 2025, coincides with the conclusion of the company's joint venture with Genesis Energy.

Project Specifications and Location

The Rangitīkei solar project is located in the Rangitīkei District of New Zealand's North Island and will cover approximately 450 hectares. The solar farm is designed to generate approximately 350,000 MWh per year, sufficient to power approximately 45,000 homes. The project is expected to help avoid approximately 35,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions annually.

FRV Australia has purchased the Rangitīkei project from the joint venture it previously held with Genesis Energy. The project design includes the potential for future integration of a battery energy storage system (BESS), enhancing grid flexibility and resilience.

Employment and Construction Timeline

The Rangitīkei solar project will create significant local employment opportunities during its construction phase. The project is expected to bring a peak of 250 jobs, with an average of 75 workers over an expected 24-month construction period.

Joint Venture Conclusion and Ongoing Partnership

The announcement of the Rangitīkei project development coincides with the conclusion of FRV Australia's joint venture with Genesis Energy. This agreement had facilitated FRV Australia's entry into the New Zealand market and accelerated the development of multiple solar projects in the country.

Despite the conclusion of the joint venture, FRV Australia and Genesis Energy will continue their relationship through co-ownership and operation of the Lauriston solar farm in Canterbury. The Lauriston solar farm began generating in November 2024 and was the largest solar farm in New Zealand at the time.
