European Energy (renewable energy company) has selected Capalo AI (energy-tech company) to provide optimisation and trading services for two hybrid renewable energy projects in the Baltic region, covering a combined solar capacity of more than 140 MWp paired with 71 MW and 170 MWh of battery storage.
Two Baltic Hybrid Parks at the Centre of the Deal
The partnership, announced on 26 August 2026, covers two specific assets: the Anykščiai hybrid park in Lithuania and the Saldus Hybrid Park in Latvia. Both facilities combine solar generation with co-located battery energy storage systems, giving each project the ability to manage electricity generation and storage together and respond more flexibly to conditions in their respective electricity markets.
At Anykščiai in Lithuania, a 25 MW and 65 MWh battery energy storage system has been installed at an existing 78 MWp solar park. That facility entered operations in June 2026, with Capalo AI already providing optimisation and trading services for the asset at the time of the announcement.
The Saldus Hybrid Park in Latvia is a larger installation, combining a 46 MW and 105 MWh battery with a 65.7 MWp solar park. As with Anykščiai, the battery is co-located with the solar facility, allowing the two technologies to be operated in coordination.
What Capalo AI Will Deliver
Under the terms of the partnership, Capalo AI will handle both optimisation and energy trading across the two hybrid assets. The company's role centres on deploying artificial intelligence-driven trading and optimisation tools to manage the assets across balancing and wholesale electricity markets.
Hybrid solar-and-battery projects are able to participate in ancillary services that support system operators in maintaining grid stability. By combining generation with storage, such facilities can store electricity when conditions make that appropriate and supply it to the grid when demand or market prices make doing so more advantageous. This flexibility behind the meter also allows hybrids to balance themselves more effectively than standalone generation assets.
Henri Taskinen, CEO of Capalo AI, described the two parks as major providers of clean energy and flexibility in the Baltics. "We look forward to realizing these assets' full potential across all balancing and wholesale markets with our AI-driven trading and optimization," he said.

European Energy's Expanding Battery Storage Strategy
For European Energy, the deal with Capalo AI reflects a broader strategic push into battery storage and the hybridisation of renewable energy parks. The Copenhagen-headquartered developer has characterised the Baltic countries as particularly interesting markets for this type of development, citing the region's electricity system dynamics as well as the growing role of flexible assets in European energy markets.
Jens-Peter Zink, Deputy CEO of European Energy, said the partnership with Capalo AI provides the optimisation and trading capabilities the company needs to operate its hybrid assets more efficiently across several electricity markets. "Battery storage and hybridisation of energy parks is becoming an increasingly important part of European Energy's renewable energy portfolio," he said.
European Energy carries a development portfolio of over 30 GW across Europe, according to statements made by Capalo AI in connection with the announcement.
The Role of Hybrid Assets in Baltic Electricity Markets
The Baltic energy markets have increasingly attracted investment in storage-linked renewable projects as the region works to integrate higher shares of variable generation and reduce its dependence on legacy grid infrastructure.
Co-locating battery systems with solar parks allows developers to extract additional value from their assets by participating in multiple revenue streams, including spot market trading and grid balancing services.
The Anykščiai project's operational status as of June 2026 means Capalo AI has already been active on that asset, with the Saldus Hybrid Park expected to follow under the same arrangement.
Together, the two projects represent a meaningful portion of European Energy's Baltic battery storage footprint, combining a total of 71 MW of power capacity and 170 MWh of energy storage with solar generation exceeding 140 MWp.
The partnership was announced from Copenhagen, where European Energy is headquartered, and marks another step in the company's stated strategy of expanding battery storage capacity across the Baltic region.
