ERG has completed construction and energised the Aukrug wind farm in northern Germany, the Italian renewable energy group announced on 23 July 2026. The facility marks a milestone for the company's German operations, bringing its total onshore wind capacity in the country above 350 MW.

Project Specifications

The Aukrug wind farm consists of four Vestas V150 turbines, each rated at 5.6 MW, delivering a combined installed capacity of 22.4 MW. ERG estimates the plant will generate approximately 50 GWh of electricity per year, enough to meet the power needs of around 8,000 households. The project is also projected to avoid 16,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions annually.

Revenue Framework

The Aukrug facility operates under a twenty-year Contract for Difference (CfD), a mechanism ERG has described as central to its strategy of stabilising and making predictable its revenue streams.

The long-term contract structure aligns with the broader financial approach the group has pursued across its European renewables portfolio, providing price certainty over an extended operational horizon.

First of Four Active German Construction Projects

CEO Paolo Merli confirmed that Aukrug is the first of four projects currently under construction in Germany to enter commercial operation. The pipeline under development includes both repowering schemes, involving the replacement of older turbines with more powerful equipment, and new greenfield developments. Merli described the energisation as evidence of what he called a solid growth trajectory in an important market.

In a statement accompanying the announcement, Merli said: "With the energisation of the Aukrug park, ERG exceeds 350 MW of installed wind power in Germany.

Aukrug is the first of the four projects currently under construction in the country, between repowering and greenfield, to enter into service, proving the solid growth path of the Group in an important market like Germany and the strategy aimed at guaranteeing stability and predictability of revenues thanks to the CfD from which the plant benefits."

ERG's European and International Position

ERG describes itself as a leading independent clean energy operator active across eight European countries as well as the United States. The company holds the position of the largest onshore wind operator in Italy and ranks among the top ten onshore wind operators in Europe. Beyond wind, ERG is also active in solar power projects, where it places itself among the top ten operators in Italy, and in the battery storage sector.

The group has repositioned itself substantially over the past decade, transitioning from an oil-focused business model to one centred exclusively on wind and solar generation. ERG characterises this as a completed transformation, describing its current structure as a pure Wind and Solar business.
