Equinor started oil production from the North Sea’s Breidablikk oil field four months ahead of schedule. The subsea field connected to the grant platform contains nearly 200 million barrels of recoverable oil, Equinor is the key operator of the project with a total investment of USD 1.89 billion. The project is highly profitable, contributing significant volumes to the market and generating substantial value for the Nordic region

The commencement of production from Breidablikk was initially planned for the first half of 2024, which included predrilling and completion of five wells. Currently, eight wells have been drilled, and the drilling of supplementary wells is set to continue till 2025.
The Breidablikk project is constructed using 22 subsea wells. The Bredablikk project has the potential to provide 1,000 associated jobs up to 2060. During its peak production, Breidablikk is predicted to contribute over 55-60,000 barrels of oil per day to the market, primarily to Europe. The oil extracted from Breidablikk is processed on the Grane platform and subsequently transported to the sture terminal in Øygarden. Oil will account for about 15 percent of exports from Sture in the years to come. The new oil field will be operated together with the Grane field by the Grane field by the Equinor organization at Sandsli in Bergen.
