Energiekontor Commissions Drensteinfurt-Rieth Wind Park and Secures New North Rhine-Westphalia Building Permits in Germany

Bremen-based renewable energy developer Energiekontor AG has successfully commissioned the Drensteinfurt-Rieth wind park in the Warendorf district of North Rhine-Westphalia, completing the project on schedule and handing it over to the private investors who purchased it on a turnkey basis in June 2025.

 

Simultaneously, the company has announced that it has obtained two additional building permits for wind park projects in the same German state, adding approximately 46 megawatts of prospective capacity to its development pipeline.

Project Completion and Handover

The Drensteinfurt-Rieth wind park consists of two Enercon E-160 EP5 wind turbines, delivering a combined generation capacity of approximately eleven megawatts. Each turbine stands at a hub height of around 120 metres and features a rotor diameter of 160 metres.

 

The wind park was formally commissioned in June 2026 and subsequently handed over to its buyers in accordance with the contractual terms agreed at the point of sale.

Energiekontor had sold the project to several private investors on a turnkey basis in June 2025, with construction proceeding as planned in the intervening months.

 

The project received remuneration under the German Renewable Energy Sources Act, having been awarded a contract by the German Federal Network Agency as part of the August 2024 auction round.

From its first full year of operation, the wind park is projected to generate an average annual yield of around 24 gigawatt hours. According to Energiekontor, this output is sufficient to mathematically supply more than 7,000 average households with renewable electricity and to avoid more than 18,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions annually.

 

Ongoing Operational Role

Despite having sold the project prior to construction, Energiekontor will maintain a long-term presence at the wind park through the provision of technical and commercial management services.

 

The company will support the owners in optimising the operation of the turbines, drawing on what it describes as many years of operational management experience across its portfolio.

Peter Szabo, CEO of Energiekontor AG, said the commissioning demonstrated the company's ability to reliably move projects from development through to handover.

 

"The fact that we will continue to support the wind park as part of our operational management activities demonstrates the strength of our integrated business model, from project development and implementation through to long-term operational management," Szabo said in a statement accompanying the announcement.

Two New Building Permits in Höxter District

Alongside the commissioning announcement, Energiekontor disclosed that it has obtained two further building permits for wind park projects in North Rhine-Westphalia, together representing a total installed capacity of around 46 megawatts.

 

Both permitted projects are located in the Höxter district and, due to their close geographical proximity, are to be developed jointly going forward. The company stated this combined development approach is intended to leverage synergies and efficiently advance the next project steps for both sites.

No further details regarding turbine specifications, projected output, or the anticipated timeline for construction of the Höxter district projects were provided in the announcement.

Energiekontor was founded in Bremerhaven in 1990 and describes itself as one of Germany's leading project developers in wind and solar energy. The company's core activities span the planning, construction, and operational management of wind and solar parks in Germany and in several international markets.

 

In addition to its development and construction business, Energiekontor operates 40 wind and solar parks in its own portfolio, with a combined nominal capacity of around 455 megawatts.

Since its founding, the company states it has developed more than 170 wind and solar park projects totalling over 1.5 gigawatts in nominal capacity, representing an investment volume of more than USD 2.51 billion. The company's project pipeline, as measured at the end of the 2024 financial year stood at 11.2 gigawatts, excluding US project rights.
