ENERCON has agreed to a new syndicated guarantee facility worth USD 1.17 billion with its financing partners, the German wind turbine manufacturer announced on 20 August 2026.
The agreement comes alongside the early repayment of the final tranche of a USD 585 million loan from the German government's Economic Stabilisation Fund, marking what the company describes as the formal completion of a years-long restructuring process.
Terms and Structure of the New Facility
The new syndicated credit facility carries an initial term of three years, with two extension options of one year each. Beyond the headline USD 1.17 billion guarantee volume, the agreement also includes further development options designed to support ENERCON's broader business activities, though specific details of those options were not disclosed.
The facility has been structured as a Green Loan, a designation that Commerzbank AG noted reflects ENERCON's focus on renewable energy. KfW joined the facility through its support programme called Hedging Instrument for Transformation Industries, expanding the banking consortium supporting ENERCON from 10 to 11 institutions. Commerzbank AG and Deutsche Bank AG coordinated the consortium.
ENERCON CFO Dr Michael Jaxy said the newly negotiated volume and improved framework conditions reflect confidence from financing partners in both the company's business performance to date and its long-term prospects. He described the facility as establishing the financial foundation for ENERCON's business activities in the coming years.

Early Repayment of the WSF Loan
Simultaneously with the new facility announcement, ENERCON confirmed it had successfully repaid the final tranche of the loan granted by the German government's Economic Stabilisation Fund, known by its German acronym WSF. That repayment was made ahead of the loan's original maturity date, which had been set for the end of 2026.
ENERCON received the USD 585 million WSF loan in 2022 to implement stabilisation measures in response to the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. The early repayment closes out that government support arrangement before its scheduled expiry.

Completing a Restructuring That Began After a 2019 Crisis
Heiko Janssen, Chairman of the Executive Board of the Aloys Wobben Stiftung, ENERCON's sole shareholder, described the repayment as marking the formal completion of the company's restructuring.
The Aloys Wobben Stiftung initiated and led what it characterises as an extensive turnaround process after ENERCON faced an existential crisis in 2019, which followed the collapse of the onshore wind market.
Janssen said the foundation is pleased to have successfully completed the process together with the ENERCON Management Board and financing partners, and described the company as now entering what he called a promising phase of growth.
Order Intake and Strategic Repositioning
ENERCON CEO Udo Bauer pointed to a growing order intake of nearly USD 7.02 billion by the end of 2025 as evidence of strong customer interest. He said the company is now regarded by customers and partners as a reliable partner with a future-proof business model, and attributed that reception in part to a strategic repositioning that he said has moved the company beyond the manufacture and sale of wind turbines alone.
Bauer described ENERCON's current offering as that of a solution provider for the renewable energy ecosystem, with a portfolio spanning planning and installation through to management, control, service, maintenance, and system performance optimisation.
He said customers and partners recognise that connected solutions are becoming increasingly important for the energy transition, and that this repositioning is being well received in the market.
The ability to attract a new banking institution to the consortium, in addition to retaining financing partners from the restructuring phase, was cited by Bauer as demonstrating confidence in the company's new strategic direction.
Banking Partners Comment on the Transaction
Tim Koenemann, Global Head of the Center of Competence Green Infrastructure Finance at Commerzbank AG, said the bank is pleased to continue its long-standing partnership with ENERCON through the new facility.
He described the Green Loan structure as aligning with Commerzbank's approach of supporting transformation processes in the real economy, and said the consortium sought to provide reliable financing solutions for ENERCON's further strategic development.
Nils Wrogemann, Head of Corporate Clients and Spokesperson for the Local Management Board of Deutsche Bank Bremen, described the transaction as demonstrating how tailored financing solutions can help companies achieve strategic objectives in a dynamic market environment.
He said Deutsche Bank is pleased to support ENERCON in advancing its growth and transformation strategy using the bank's structuring and financing expertise.
