Empower Semiconductor company powering AI-class processors, announced the closing of over USD 140 million in Series D financing on September 22, 2025. The San Jose, California-based company secured investment from a syndicate led by Fidelity Management & Research Company. The investor group includes Maverick Silicon, CapitalG, Atreides Management, Socratic Partners, Walden Catalyst Ventures, Knollwood, and a wholly owned subsidiary of the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority (ADIA).

Barclays Capital served as the exclusive placement agent for the transaction.

Company Leadership Response

Tim Phillips, Founder & CEO of Empower Semiconductor, stated that the financing will accelerate the company's growth in the AI space and drive continued technology breakthroughs in AI processor power management. “The syndicate we now have backing Empower underscores the strength of our technology lead, market opportunity, and depth of customer adoption,” Phillips said.

He added that over the coming quarters, the company is “set to transform the AI market with our revolutionary technology, enabling gigawatts of energy savings and improved throughput of AI platforms across data centers worldwide.”

Investor Perspectives

Andrew Homan, Managing Partner at Maverick Silicon, highlighted Empower's position in the AI and data center markets. “Empower is solving the critical bottleneck in modern AI computing with a platform that combines technical leadership and commercial momentum,” Homan said. He noted that as power demand in data centers continues to rise, new technology is required to enable next-generation AI performance, and “Empower is setting the standard.”

James Luo, General Partner at CapitalG, Alphabet's independent growth fund, emphasized the company's focus on power delivery as a critical enabler of AI infrastructure. “Empower has demonstrated a clear vision, execution, and leadership in power delivery, one of the most critical enablers of AI infrastructure,” Luo stated. He expressed excitement about supporting the team, as “their highly differentiated technology is having a tremendous impact on the scaling of Data Centers and performance of AI.”

Technology and Applications

Empower Semiconductor develops power management solutions designed to enable full unrestricted speed and performance of the latest xPUs. The company's technology focuses on high power density, high bandwidth conversion, low power distribution losses, and vertical power delivery. The company's FinFast technology utilizes integrated voltage regulators that deliver on-demand, scalable power with the speed, precision, and signal integrity required by AI processors.

According to the company, its power-management architecture reduces solution footprint, height, and component count while achieving vertical power delivery with high power density and efficiency. Empower's E-CAP silicon capacitors offer wide bandwidth, low impedance, and highly stable decoupling capabilities that can be placed close to, and even integrated into, an SoC substrate.

The company states that these components address issues in high-speed designs that utilize digital components with high-speed edge rates in their output signals, which can be susceptible to significant distortion and degradation, resulting in high bit-error rates and reduced data throughput. The company's IVR regulators use non-ferromagnetic air-core inductors, which the company says are ideal for operating in harsh magnetic environments.

This addresses equipment designed to operate within high magnetic field environments that can experience power failures or abnormal operating conditions due to magnetic field forces on ferromagnetic material-based electronics.

Market Applications

Empower Semiconductor targets several market segments with its technology. The company notes that data being communicated and processed globally is rapidly growing, driving demand for faster data processing components in data centers and datacom equipment. The company offers what it describes as novel, fully integrated power management solutions that both enhance performance and address the power density challenge of space-constrained, data-intensive applications.

For System-on-Modules (SOMs) and Computer-on-Modules (CoMs) applications, Empower's IVRs provide high-density configurable multi-rail regulators, enabling rapid and flexible prototyping. The company explains that SOMs and CoMs provide all components of an embedded processing system on a single production-ready printed circuit board. In chiplet architectures, which the company says are rapidly gaining popularity over monolithic designs, Empower's IVRs can be integrated as an additional chiplet into an SoC.

This integration aims to increase power delivery efficiency and simplify PCB routing, addressing the more complex power management and PCB routing requirements of chiplet architectures compared to monolithic designs. The company attributes the intensified need for high-speed data processing and complex calculations to advances in artificial intelligence, 3-D imaging, and autonomous driving technologies, which have increased demand for faster and more complex processors and architectures.
