Edify Energy has reached financial close on its Ganymirra and Majors Creek hybrid solar and battery storage projects in North Queensland, adding two more major assets to a financing platform that now spans four projects and approximately $3.2 billion in committed project debt.

Projects and Scale

The Ganymirra and Majors Creek projects are located at Woodstock, near Townsville, on Thul Garrie Waja country, the traditional lands of the Bindal People. Together, the two integrated hybrid assets comprise 360 megawatts of peak solar generation capacity and 300 megawatts of battery storage, delivering 1,200 megawatt-hours of energy capacity.

Edify described the projects as being delivered through reverse DC-coupled technology and a single set of grid-forming inverters, a configuration the company says allows stored solar energy to be dispatched at times of peak demand while enhancing network stability. Once operational, expected in 2028, the projects are forecast to generate enough electricity to power more than 100,000 homes.

Financing Structure

The financial close announced on 13 August 2026 follows an earlier close in May 2026 on Edify's Smoky Creek and Guthrie's Gap projects, which carry 720 megawatts peak of solar and 2,400 megawatt-hours of battery storage.

Together, the four projects share what Edify described as a market-first greenfield renewable energy portfolio financing package supported by a syndicate of 14 domestic and international lenders.

The USD 3.2 billion figure represents the aggregate project financing committed across all four projects in the portfolio. In addition to the project-level debt, Edify stated the Ganymirra and Majors Creek projects are also supported by a corporate-level financing facility, which it characterised as a first-in-market arrangement.

Edify's shareholder, la Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec, known as La Caisse, is cited as a key supporter of the financing and delivery program across all four projects.

Government Support

Ganymirra and Majors Creek are backed by the Australian Government's Capacity Investment Scheme, making them Edify's third and fourth projects to reach financial close with support from the scheme.

The Capacity Investment Scheme is designed to accelerate investment in renewable energy generation and dispatchable capacity. Edify Chief Executive Officer Ben Warne acknowledged the Commonwealth Government's role, saying the scheme continues to accelerate investment in both renewable generation and dispatchable capacity across Australia.

Warne said of the milestone: "Successive milestones across Smoky Creek, Guthrie's Gap, Ganymirra and Majors Creek projects demonstrate the strength of our business, our people and our ability to consistently progress projects from concept to construction and play our part in accelerating the energy transition and ensuring low cost and reliable energy security."

Contractors and Suppliers

Three major contractors and suppliers have been named in connection with the projects. DT Infrastructure will serve as the engineering, procurement and construction contractor. CATL, the Chinese battery manufacturer, has been appointed as a battery supplier. Powerlink, the Queensland transmission network service provider, will act as head contractor for network and connection works.

Regional Economic Impact

Edify has placed significant emphasis on the economic footprint the projects are expected to leave in regional Queensland. During construction, the projects are anticipated to employ approximately 400 local workers, with a further 10 ongoing positions to be created during the operational phase.

More than USD 450 million is expected to flow into local communities through regional supply chains, local employment, First Nations businesses and associated economic activity over the life of the projects.

The company has committed to local procurement, employment and training programs, as well as long-term community and First Nations funding arrangements. Warne noted that the projects are backed by commitments intended to create a legacy extending throughout the projects' operating life and beyond.

The two projects are also described as contributing to the objectives set out in the Queensland Energy Roadmap, the state government's framework for transitioning to affordable, reliable and sustainable energy.

Delivery Pipeline

Edify framed the financial close on Ganymirra and Majors Creek as the conversion of another tranche of its development pipeline into critical energy infrastructure.

The company said the financing platform, given its scalable structure supported by 14 lenders, provides a framework for continued investment in Australia's energy transition beyond the current four-project portfolio.

Edify described the overall financing approach as demonstrating how strategic partnerships and innovative financing structures can accelerate renewable energy project delivery in Australia.
