Econergy Brings Parau 1 Battery Storage Online in Romania as First Co-Located Solar-Plus-Storage Project

Econergy Ltd. has connected its Parau 1 battery energy storage system to the grid in Romania, marking the company's first co-located solar-plus-storage project to reach commercial operation.

 

The system has a capacity of 70 MW and 141 MWh and sits alongside an existing 92MW solar plant that has been operational since 2024, bringing the combined installed capacity at the site to 162 MW.

A First for Econergy's Portfolio

The Parau 1 project represents a significant milestone for Econergy, which describes this as its first experience building storage around a solar asset that was already in operation.

 

The company has been running the adjacent solar plant since 2024, and the addition of the battery system now transforms the site into a fully integrated renewable energy and storage facility. The combined capacity figure of 162 MW reflects the aggregation of the 92MW solar plant and the 70 MW BESS installation.

The project is also notable as a template for what Econergy intends to replicate elsewhere in the country.
