DayOne and Sembcorp Sign MOU to Explore Integrated Power Solutions for Asian Data Center Growth

DayOne Data Centers, a Singapore-headquartered global digital infrastructure platform, and Sembcorp Utilities, a wholly owned subsidiary of Sembcorp Industries, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to explore integrating power and energy solutions into DayOne's data center developments as it continues to grow across Asia. The announcement was made on 29 October 2026.

Scope of the Agreement

Under the MOU, the two companies would evaluate solutions across several areas, including on-site power infrastructure and generation, renewable energy supply, and operations and maintenance services.

The framework also allows the parties to explore reliable and cost-competitive power solutions, electrical infrastructure, fuel supply and storage, and associated technical and operational services.

DayOne and Sembcorp intend to jointly evaluate the feasibility, business case, and potential implementation pathways for energy solutions associated with agreed projects.

Supporting the "Bring Your Own Power" Initiative

Koh Chiap Khiong, President and CEO of Gas and Related Services at Sembcorp, linked the agreement to the energy demands of artificial intelligence. "Powering AI requires energy infrastructure to grow alongside digital infrastructure," Koh said.

"By working with DayOne early in the development of its projects, we can explore energy solutions that support its evolving requirements and continued growth across Asia. Together, we aim to help build the energy foundations needed to support the rapid growth of AI and digital infrastructure across the region."

Building on Existing Renewable Energy Commitments

The MOU builds on DayOne's power and energy initiatives across its footprint. The company is targeting 100% renewable energy by 2030, where market conditions allow.

In Singapore, DayOne already has a Power Purchase Agreement with Sembcorp for its upcoming SG1 Data Center, where operations will be fully covered by renewable energy.

In Malaysia, DayOne announced renewable energy supply agreements in June 2026 covering approximately 1.5GWp of solar capacity and 2.2GWh of battery energy storage under the country's Corporate Renewable Energy Supply Scheme, known as CRESS.

In Thailand, DayOne entered into a Power Purchase Agreement to supply renewable energy to its Chonburi Tech Park data center campus.

Addressing Power as a Constraint on Growth

Through these initiatives, DayOne said it aims to turn one of the industry's biggest constraints into an enabler of growth. The company stated that the goal is to give customers greater confidence that capacity can be delivered at speed, when and where they need it.

The company describes the MOU as a framework for evaluation rather than a commitment to specific projects. The parties would assess feasibility and business cases for energy solutions tied to projects they agree on, with implementation pathways to be determined as part of that process.

DayOne describes itself as a Singapore-headquartered global digital infrastructure platform, while Sembcorp Utilities is a wholly owned subsidiary of Sembcorp Industries.

Both executives emphasized the early integration of energy planning into data center development, a theme that runs through the company's stated approach of securing power, land, water, and connectivity at the outset of projects.

Powering Asia-Pacific's Data Center Boom with Real-Time Project Intelligence

The Asia-Pacific data center market is expanding at a pace few industries can match; hyperscale campuses in Singapore, edge facilities in Jakarta, and massive builds across India and Malaysia are reshaping the region's digital backbone. But with hundreds of projects in motion simultaneously, how do you know which ones matter to your business before your competitors do?

Fragmented news sources and outdated reports simply cannot keep up with the speed of data center development in Asia-Pacific. What you need is a single, continuously updated view of every project pipeline, from land acquisition to commissioning, so your sales, strategy, and investment teams can act on opportunity, not hearsay.

The Global Project Tracking (GPT) platform by Blackridge Research delivers exactly that: verified, real-time intelligence on data center projects across every major Asia-Pacific market, structured to plug directly into your business development workflow.
