Danske Commodities to Optimise Co-Located Solar and Battery Storage at Agersted Energy Park in Denmark

European Energy (renewable energy company) and Danske Commodities (energy trading company) have signed an optimisation agreement covering Agersted Energy Park, a co-located solar photovoltaic facility and battery energy storage system located in Brønderslev Municipality in Denmark's DK1 price area.

 

The agreement, announced on 28 July 2026, positions Danske Commodities as the optimisation partner for the combined asset, taking on the roles of balance responsible party and balancing service provider for the site.

A Solar Park Expanded with Battery Capability

Agersted Solar Park has been in operation since 2021. The facility has a generation capacity of 30 megawatts peak and has now been extended with a battery energy storage system rated at 10 megawatts with an energy storage capacity of 40 megawatt-hours. The battery system has been integrated directly within the existing solar park, forming a single co-located asset capable of both generating and storing renewable electricity.

The battery component allows excess solar generation captured during periods of peak production to be stored and dispatched at times of higher electricity demand and stronger market prices.

 

According to the companies, this improves both the utilisation and the market value of the renewable energy produced at the park. The combined facility is described as capable of providing clean and reliable energy to thousands of Danish households.

 

Roles and Responsibilities Under the Agreement

Under the terms of the optimisation agreement, Danske Commodities will serve as balance responsible party and balancing service provider for the combined co-located asset.

 

This means the trading company will manage the park's participation across relevant energy markets, handling both the generation from the solar installation and the dispatch decisions associated with the battery storage system.

Dirk Kaiser, Head of Renewables Business Development at Danske Commodities, described the agreement as another step in the company's growing portfolio and its ongoing partnership with European Energy.

 

Kaiser cited the company's twenty years of power trading expertise and a fully automated algorithmic setup as central to its position as an optimiser of renewables and flexible energy assets.

Gregor McDonald, VP and Head of Energy Trading and PPA at European Energy, said Agersted demonstrates how co-located solar and battery assets can create additional flexibility and value for the energy system.

 

McDonald added that having Danske Commodities as optimisation partner provides a setup that allows both generation and storage to be managed efficiently across relevant energy markets.
