Cubico Sustainable Investments (renewable energy company) has secured a series of permitting milestones across its Italian development portfolio, representing more than 280 MW of solar and wind capacity, the company announced.
Scope of the Approvals
The permitting process covers two distinct regulatory processes under the Italian framework. Cubico received multiple Environmental Impact Assessment approvals for six solar and wind projects, while also securing Single Authorization, known in Italy as Autorizzazione Unica, for two additional projects. The milestones were achieved across the latter part of 2025 and into the first quarter of 2026.
The projects are located across several regions of Italy, including the island of Sicily and mainland areas such as Basilicata and Lazio. Cubico noted that these regions play an important role in the country's renewable energy growth due to their strong natural resource base.
Alessandro Asperti, Cubico's Country Head for Italy and Greece, described the approvals as an important step forward for the Italian portfolio. "Securing EIA approvals is a complex and demanding process, and this achievement is a testament to the dedication, technical capability, and collaboration of our teams," he said, adding that the company remains focused on progressing projects in alignment with local priorities and environmental considerations.
A Competitive Permitting Environment
Cubico characterized the Italian permitting landscape as challenging and highly competitive. The company said the milestones reflect significant coordination across its Italian team, working in close collaboration with colleagues in its Development, Legal, and Technical functions to advance projects through what it described as complex permitting processes.
The progress comes as Italy continues to scale up its renewable energy ambitions, with the country working to increase domestically sourced clean energy generation. Cubico framed its pipeline development as part of broader support for Italy's transition toward a more secure and domestically powered energy system.

Agrivoltaics as a Core Strategy
A central feature of Cubico's Italian pipeline is its emphasis on agrivoltaic development, a model that integrates solar energy generation with the continued agricultural use of land.
The company said its projects are being developed in partnership with local farming businesses, with the explicit aim of ensuring that renewable energy generation does not displace productive agricultural activity.
Agricultural uses compatible with the solar installations include grazing and cultivation. Cubico stated that maintaining strong relationships with local stakeholders and communities is a core element of this approach.
The company also pointed to Italy's evolving policy framework around agrivoltaics as a factor that could support further deployment. As Italy continues to refine its incentives in this area, Cubico said the agrivoltaic model is expected to play an increasingly important role in unlocking new sites and accelerating the pace of development. The company indicated it is embedding these principles across its wider solar Project pipeline in the country.
In December 2025, Cubico achieved what it described as 100 percent success in the FER-X auction with Italian agri-PV projects, a result referenced on the company's website as a related development to the latest permitting announcements.
Battery Storage Integration
In addition to the solar and wind generation components, Cubico said projects within its Italian portfolio are being developed with the potential for co-located battery energy storage systems. The company said this is intended to support grid resilience and assist with the broader integration of renewable generation into the Italian energy network.
The inclusion of storage potential within the project designs reflects a broader industry trend toward pairing generation assets with storage capacity, particularly as intermittent renewable sources increase their share of the national electricity supply.
Community and Environmental Commitments
Beyond the permitting milestones themselves, Cubico said it continues to engage with local stakeholders and authorities to ensure the projects deliver long-term regional benefits. The company cited environmental mitigation measures, biodiversity initiatives, and responsible land management as components of its engagement approach in Italy.
Asperti said the company's ambition is to build a strong and deliverable pipeline while remaining aligned with local priorities. "We remain focused on progressing projects in a way that is aligned with local priorities and environmental considerations," he said, "while continuing to build a strong and deliverable pipeline in Italy."
Next Steps for the Pipeline
Following the receipt of the latest approvals, Cubico said it will continue advancing projects through the subsequent stages of development. The company described this as part of its broader strategy to expand its renewable energy portfolio in the Italian market.
Cubico operates across multiple European markets and identifies Italy as a key component of its long-term development strategy, with the latest permitting progress reinforcing what the company characterized as its ongoing commitment to the country's energy transition.
