Contemporary Nebula Technology Energy Co., Ltd., known as CNTE and invested by CATL, has supplied its STAR T containerized energy storage system for the Modlany Energy Park in the northern Czech Republic, a project that now stands as the largest completed battery storage installation in the country.
Project Scale and Configuration
The Modlany Energy Park combines a 42.7 megawatt photovoltaic power plant with a 37.95 MW and 41.7 megawatt-hour battery energy storage system. The installation deploys 11 CNTE STAR T-285 liquid-cooled energy storage containers, with each unit rated at 3.45 MW and 3.793 MWh. The project is located in the Teplice region of the northern Czech Republic and is connected to a major high-voltage substation.
The site itself carries a notable history. Modlany Energy Park is built on a former mining spoil site, demonstrating how previously unused industrial land can be repurposed into productive renewable energy infrastructure.
The combination of solar generation, battery storage and intelligent energy management creates what CNTE describes as a more flexible energy asset for the local region.

Grid Services and Operational Design
The energy storage system is designed to provide fast-response frequency regulation and grid balancing services. According to CNTE, the system can rapidly charge or discharge according to grid requirements, helping to balance fluctuations in photovoltaic generation and electricity demand.
By storing surplus solar power and releasing it when required, the project is intended to improve renewable energy utilization and strengthen the flexibility and reliability of the regional power system.
The installation also provides additional balancing capacity as the Czech Republic continues integrating more renewable energy into its electricity network. STAR T System Specifications and Safety Features
CNTE's STAR T is a liquid-cooled containerized energy storage system developed for utility-scale applications, covering uses including frequency regulation, renewable energy integration and grid-side energy management. The system supports one-period charging and discharging, enabling rapid power response for frequency regulation and ancillary services.
Its modular architecture supports one- to four-hour applications, allowing system configurations to be adapted to different project capacities and operating requirements. This flexibility means the platform can be scaled to suit a range of utility-scale deployments without requiring fundamental changes to the core system design.
On the safety side, STAR T integrates intelligent liquid cooling alongside a four-level fire protection framework. The system also incorporates precise fire alarm positioning and continuous DC insulation monitoring, features CNTE says are designed to support stable operation under demanding grid conditions. An integrated energy management system and cloud platform provide real-time monitoring, intelligent control and lifecycle asset management capabilities.
