Petrobras and Bolivia’s  YPFB(Yacimientos Petroliferos Fiscales Bolivianos) are keen to invest USD 2.5 billion in a new ammonia plant near the border between Brazil and Bolivia. The new plant will have a capacity to produce 4,200 metric tons per year, the firm said, and would be located in the Bolivian border city of Puerto Quijarro.

The investment cost will be shared between Brazil and Bolivia said Luciano Motellano Abasto, vice president of operations for a state-run Bolivian firm. During a meeting with Petrobras executives, the Bolivian firm presented general information on the project, and the Brazilian firm showed interest said Abasto.

Earlier during the second meeting of the Bilateral Agenda fulfillment between Bolivia and Brazil, there were discussions about setting up a Urea Production plant in Quijarro and Potassium chloride projects in Uyuni and Coipasa. Furthermore, the discussions envisaged the implementation of a business model in the urea plant located in Tres Lagoas.
