BayWa r.e. (global renewable energy developer) has completed the sale of two wind farms in Poland and Italy, representing a combined capacity of approximately 80 MW across an operating asset and a development-stage project.

The transactions, announced on April 30, 2026, involve separate buyers in each country and mark the latest in a series of asset deals the German renewables company says it is progressing this year.

Polish Operating Asset Goes to ENGIE Zielona Energia

The first transaction involves the completed sale of the 30 MW Kamionka Wind Farm in Poland to ENGIE Zielona Energia, the Polish renewable energy division of the global ENGIE Group.

The wind farm is located in Kamionka in Myślibórz County, West Pomeranian Province in north-western Poland and has been in continuous operation since March 2012.

The facility consists of 12 turbines rated at 2.5 MW each, giving it a total installed capacity of 30 MW. According to BayWa r.e., the wind farm's annual electricity production is equivalent to the consumption of 27,115 Polish households.

Throughout the asset's operational lifetime, BayWa r.e. has managed both the technical and commercial performance of the Kamionka project.

For ENGIE Zielona Energia, the acquisition is described as a strategic milestone as the company continues to expand its renewable energy presence in Poland. The deal represents a straightforward transfer of an operating asset with an established generation record spanning more than a decade.

Italian Development Project Sold to Alerion

The second transaction covers an agreement to sell the entire share capital of Sirio Rinnovabili s.r.l., the company holding the development rights to the Vallelunga wind farm project in Sicily, to Italian renewable energy producer Alerion.

BayWa r.e. said it has directly overseen all activities related to the project up to the point of sale, ensuring its technical maturity and securing the conditions for subsequent implementation.

The Vallelunga project will be constructed across three municipalities: Vallelunga Pratameno in the province of Caltanissetta, Sclafani Bagni, and Valledolmo in the province of Palermo.

Connection works will take place in the municipality of Cammarata in the province of Agrigento, where a new electrical substation is planned as part of the national electricity grid owned by Terna S.p.A.

The project received authorization in January 2025 and will have a total installed capacity of 48.8 MW. BayWa r.e. states that the plant will generate an annual net energy production of approximately 120 GWh, equivalent to the energy needs of around 45,000 households.

Responsibility for the subsequent phases of detailed design, including all technological choices, as well as the construction and installation of wind turbines, will pass to the buyer, Alerion.

Transactions Reflect Wider Pipeline Activity

The two deals together bring the combined capacity of the transactions to approximately 80 MW, spanning both an operational asset in northern Poland and a late-stage development project in central Sicily.

The involvement of two separate buyers — one an international energy group with a dedicated Polish renewables subsidiary, and the other an Italian domestic renewable energy producer — illustrates the range of counterparties active in the European wind market.

Dr. Daniel Gaefke, Chief Operating Officer of BayWa r.e., commented on the dual transaction, saying it further strengthens the company's position as a provider of renewable energy assets across Europe.

He described both deals as part of a broader series of transactions the company is progressing in 2026, adding that they reflect the strength and depth of BayWa r.e.'s pipeline.

Gaefke also noted the company's capacity to engage with a wide spectrum of investors, including diversified international actors as well as local developers and operators.

European Renewable Context

The transactions come as European nations continue to push toward expanded renewable energy targets. Poland has been increasing its renewable energy capacity in recent years, and wind energy from established operating assets such as Kamionka contributes to the country's supply base.

In Italy, the Vallelunga project adds to Sicily's renewable development pipeline, with the island's geography and wind resources making it a focus for wind investment.

For BayWa r.e., the completions in Poland and Italy add to the company's record of developing, operating, and ultimately divesting wind assets across the continent.

The company's involvement in the Kamionka farm spanned from before its commissioning in March 2012 through to the current sale, while its work on Vallelunga carried the project through to regulatory authorization and sale-ready condition before transferring development responsibilities to Alerion.
