Diversified energy company Avaada Group has commissioned 11 solar projects in Maharashtra's Yavatmal district under the Mukhyamantri Saur Krushi Vahini Yojana (MSKVY) 2.0. The initiative aims to provide farmers with reliable daytime electricity for irrigation. The plants are spread across Kinhi, Baldi, Dongarkharda, Bansi, Patan, Mhasola, Galwa, Pathrad, Parjana, Sawargaon, and Sarfali, with a combined capacity of 35 MW.

The projects are expected to benefit nearly 14,900 farmers across 167 villages.

Project Benefits for Farming Communities

The solar installations are designed to cut irrigation costs for farmers while reducing accident risks. Additionally, farmers will generate additional lease income from land used for solar installations. The projects provide farmers with a dependable daytime electricity supply and lower energy bills. Vineet Mittal, Chairman of Avaada Group, characterized the programme as an example of how renewable energy can uplift rural communities.

“The Mukhyamantri Saur Krushi Vahini Yojana 2.0 is a model for how clean energy can directly empower farmers while contributing to India's energy transition,” he said.

Broader Implementation Across Maharashtra

Avaada is implementing more than 1,132 MW of solar projects under MSKVY 2.0 across multiple districts, including Nashik, Pune, Sangli, Ahmednagar, and Beed. The state scheme was first launched in 2017 and has been upgraded in its current form. The programme targets the solarisation of 30 percent of agricultural feeders through nearly 7,000 MW of decentralized solar projects.

These projects range from 0.5 MW to 25 MW in capacity.

Environmental and Economic Impact

The programme delivers multiple benefits beyond direct farmer support. State distribution companies (discoms) reduce their subsidy burden and procurement costs through the initiative. From an environmental perspective, the scheme lessens reliance on fossil fuels and lowers Maharashtra's carbon footprint. Rural communities benefit from the programme through improved access to energy and increased economic opportunities.

The decentralized approach to solar development supports local energy generation while contributing to broader sustainability goals.
