The AES Corporation has entered into two long-term Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) with Meta to provide 650 megawatts (MW) of solar energy for the tech giant's data centers. The renewable energy projects will be developed in the Southwest Power Pool (SPP) market, covering regions in Texas and Kansas. Andrés Gluski, President and Chief Executive Officer of AES, stated that the company is proud to partner with Meta to deliver reliable and affordable renewable energy.
Partnership and Sustainability
The partnership is aligned with Meta's ongoing commitment to sustainability, as the company continues to scale its operations with clean energy sources. Urvi Parekh, Global Head of Energy at Meta, expressed excitement about working with AES to bring forward these two solar energy projects, which support Meta's goal for 100% clean and renewable energy. The projects will add new generation to the grid in these markets.
Economic Benefits
In addition to supporting Meta's clean energy objectives, the projects are expected to provide significant economic benefits to local communities in Texas and Kansas. This includes the creation of hundreds of construction jobs and the generation of long-term tax revenue to support local schools and counties.
