Actis, a leading growth market investor in sustainable infrastructure, announced on 6 October 2026 that it is acquiring two battery energy storage system (BESS) projects as it rapidly scales its recently launched Polish renewable energy platform.

Two BESS Projects Acquired from DRI

The projects are being acquired from DRI. The first, a 112 MW / 518MWh project in Kozienice, has already been acquired and is ready for construction by Actis. The second, a 132MW / 623MWh project in Trzebinia, has been signed and is set to be completed once operational.

Together the two projects represent 244MW of power capacity and 1,141MWh of four-hour-plus duration energy storage. According to Actis, they will be among the first utility-scale BESS projects to reach commercial operation in Poland. Both assets benefit from a secured revenue base through a 17-year inflation-indexed capacity market contract.

Building an Integrated Renewable and Storage Portfolio

The transaction follows Actis' acquisition of Klara Renewables, a 171 MW onshore wind portfolio with approximately 275MW of hybridisation potential, signed in July 2026.

The firm said the new assets support its integrated approach, combining renewable power generation with battery storage to create a system-level portfolio that aims to mitigate volatility and maximize value capture across the power system while increasing Poland's grid flexibility and renewable energy integration capability.

The announcement comes within three months of the launch of the Polish platform, which has a target of 1.5GW of wind, solar, and BESS capacity. Actis has committed more than USD 1.1 billion across three platforms in Central and Eastern Europe.

Poland's Energy Transition Context

Actis pointed to structural shifts in the Polish power market as underpinning the investment case. Poland is expected to retire approximately 18GW of coal while adding 50GW of renewables and 14GW of gas capacity by 2040.

Electricity demand is forecast to more than double by 2050, driven by industrial and transport electrification and economic growth. The firm described the country's transition away from coal as offering significant growth opportunities for assets like battery storage, supported by attractive financial mechanisms including a strong capacity market providing long-term and stable cash flows, alongside robust corporate PPA demand.

Views from Actis and DRI

Jaroslava Korpanec, Head of Central and Eastern Europe at Actis, said: "The CEE region has historically been underinvested in, and the need to drive decarbonisation and invest in independent energy supply is, in our view, absolutely crucial. Poland is a major European power market but a carbon-intensive one that needs to transition from coal to renewables while keeping the grid steady. These two projects will help build the grid flexibility required and in doing so support Poland in managing its energy transition, energy competitiveness and resilience."

Murat Cinar, Chief Executive Officer of DRI, said: "Battery storage is expected to play an increasingly important role in Poland's energy system as the share of renewables continues to grow. We believe Kozienice and Trzebinia are strong projects that can provide significant flexibility to the grid and we are pleased to see them moving into their next stage with Actis. This transaction also reflects the strength, in our view, of DRI's capability to develop and advance meaningful energy projects in Europe's most important growth markets."

Actis noted in its disclaimer that the statements in the announcement, including those made by Korpanec, are as of 6 October 2026 and represent the views of Actis, which is not research and should not be treated as research.

Powering Ahead: Stay Ahead of Poland's Expanding Electricity Infrastructure Pipeline

Poland's power sector is undergoing its most significant transformation in decades, from offshore wind farms in the North Sea to grid interconnectors linking national networks. With billions in investment flowing into generation, transmission, and storage projects, the question isn't whether opportunities will emerge, but whether you'll see them before your competitors do.

Tracking project developments across Poland, regulatory regimes, and procurement systems manually is inefficient and risky. Critical intelligence on upcoming tenders and contract awards often surfaces too late to act on.

The Global Project Tracking (GPT) platform by Blackridge Research consolidates power sector project data across Poland into a single, actionable dashboard, giving you early visibility into every stage of the project lifecycle.
