Fortescue will rapidly expand its presence in the US market by developing a USD 35 million advanced manufacturing center in Michigan, USA. This manufacturing center will be a major hub for Fortescue's production of automotive and heavy industry batteries, hydrogen generators, fast chargers, and electrolyzers. Fortescue decided to rapidly expand into the US market due to the direct result of the Inflation Reduction Act.
Dr. Andrew Forrest Fortescue’s executive chairman stated that the manufacturing center will decarbonize business and heavy industry, he also added that the project will, in turn, create a strong future for manufacturing jobs in the USA. By investing in green manufacturing projects Fortescue aims to reduce carbon emission.
Fortescue has already started production of PEM electrolyzers which it developed in-house at its factory in Gladstone, Australia. The Phoenix Hydrogen Hub project in Arizona is on track to reach FID this calendar year. The first phase of the project will contain an 80 MW electrolyzer installed. Alongside liquefaction equipment and can be expanded to meet future demand.
Fortescue also announced a new green energy investment accelerator platform called Fortescue Capital in New York City. The new organization will seek to accelerate green energy projects in the US and around the world.
