Elements Green Secures Preliminary Approval for 400 MW BESS Project in Germany

Last Updated on 05th April 2024

Elements Green ambitious 400 MW Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project in Elsfleth, Germany, has received unanimous preliminary planning approval. The project covers an area of around 18 hectares, which will house around 100 20-foot BESS container units and a balance of plant (BOP) equipment.

The planning document also referred to 400 MW being a 'first phase' of construction, indicating that the project may well encompass future BESS capacity additions.

Michael Zimmermann, the project lead, stated, “This important milestone is another significant step on our way to becoming a leader in the German battery storage market. I look forward to collaborating with the entire Elements Green team to create something extraordinary.”

The preliminary planning approval pertains to changing local zoning and land use regulations, allowing for the next stage of development. However, it is not the same as a permit for construction, which requires further development activity.

With a 400 MW capacity, this project is among the largest BESS projects in Germany. Although the company did not specify a targeted commercial operation date (COD), we are eager to see how the project is coming along.

Elements Green's vision of a world run entirely on renewable energy is significantly advanced by this project. As the team gears up for the next phases of development, they are excited for what lies ahead.
