Project Background

The Magic Kingdom - the biggest theme park is a part of the Disneyland Resort in Florida, which opened on 1 October 1971. It is owned and operated by the Walt Disney Company. The original name was Walt Disney World Magic Kingdom. It changed to the Magic Kingdom in 1994 to differentiate it from Disneyland park in California. It was set by Walt Disney, dedicating it to Fairy Tales and Disney Characters.

The park idol is Cinderella Castle. The inspiration was drawn from the fairy tale Castel, featured in the 1950 animated film.

Walt Disney dreamed of making a Walt Disney World Resort. But he failed to see it in existence due to his death from cancer in 1966. He went to Florida in person to survey the land. He met the officials and announced the project to the media. After his death, his brother Roy Disney took over the project. Construction of The Magic Kingdom began in 1967. Also, the Magic Kingdom was an unofficial nickname for Disneyland before Walt Disney World was built.

Project Location

The largest theme park, Magic Kingdom, is located at Walt Disney World Resort in Bay Lake, Florida. It is owned and operated by the Walt Disney Company. It has four Disney theme parks, two water parks, thirty resorts, a shopping mall, entertainment and recreational lakes with water activities.

Project Cost

The total cost of building this biggest amusement park was around $800 million in 1971. And today, this money is equal to  $5.5 billion. The difference in prices in 1971 and today is only due to inflation. It is the approximate amount, as the concrete cost of building the magic kingdom is not revealed to the public.

Project Themes

The magic kingdom divides its lands into six themes. These include:

Main Street, USA

It includes a train station, Town square, movie theatre, city hall, firehouse, restaurants, shops, etc. At the end of Main Street, USA, a parking hub anchored by Cinderella Castel and the Partners Statue. Main Street represents the park’s ‘opening credits’, where guests pass under the train station, and then view the names of key personnel along the windows of the building’s upper floor.

 Adventureland

It is a mastery of exploring exotic lands and features several attractions. It includes a jungle cruise - a comedic riverboat ride that travels along the wild waterways. Walt Disney's Enchanted Tikki Room is a Polynesian Musical Audio-Animatronic show drawn from American Tikki culture.

Frontierland

It is a romanticized characterization of the American Frontier from the American Old West. Tiyana's Bayou is a long fume ride inspired by the Film Princess and the Frog in 2009. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is a train rollercoaster featuring a runaway mine train through mine shafts and canyons of the American Southwest.

Liberty Square

It is influenced by a colonial American town during the American Revolutionary War. The land includes The Independence Hall, the Liberty Tree, and the Liberty Bell. The stage show is themed on the American Presidency, featuring all 46 individual American presidents in Audio-Animatronic form.

Fantasyland

Fantasyland is a Disney animated fairy tale that features films. The attraction features Disney characters and stories. It includes Peter Pan’s Fight, It's a Small World, Mad Tea Party and others.

Tomorrowland

Tomorrowland was originally designed to portray Disney's view of the future. Lots of neon, glass and gleaming metal create this themed land. Over by Space Mountain, there are metal palm trees that react to sunlight. Several attractions include Astro Orbiter, Space Mountain, Ranger Spin, Inc. Laugh Floor, Tomorrowland Speedway, etc. Over time, some attractions were renamed to give them a futuristic feel.
