Westbridge Renewable Energy Receives Final Alberta Approvals for 300 MW Dolcy Solar and Energy Storage Project
Westbridge Renewable Energy Corporation has received final transmission and connection approvals from the Alberta Utilities Commission for its Dolcy Solar and Energy Storage Project.
Project Specifications and Grid Connection
The Dolcy Project combines a 300 MWac solar photovoltaic system with a 100 MW / 200 MWh battery energy storage system. The Alberta Utilities Commission approval includes authorization for Dolcy Solar Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Westbridge, to construct and operate the Dolcy Transmission Line, which will connect the renewable energy system to Alberta's electrical grid.
The AUC Transmission Line Permit & Licence and Connection Approval encompasses approval of the Needs Identification Document from the Alberta Electric System Operator, the Facility Approval for Dolcy Solar Inc., and the Facility Approvals for AltaLink Management Ltd. Once operational, the project is expected to power more than 58,000 homes in Alberta.

Development Milestone and Company Portfolio
The completion of these final stage approvals moves the Dolcy project into the 'Ready-to-Build' stage, representing one of Westbridge's most advanced Canadian developments. This marks the company's third successful project to reach this stage in Alberta, following the Georgetown and Sunnynook projects.
Westbridge previously sold the Georgetown Project to Metlen Energy & Metals, which closed in December 2023, generating non-dilutive cash of USD 39 million for the company. The Sunnynook Project was also sold to Metlen Energy & Metals, closing in November 2024 and generating USD 23 million in non-dilutive cash for Westbridge.
Executive Commentary and Company Operations
Stefano Romanin, Director and CEO of Westbridge, stated that the approval represents the final regulatory milestone for Dolcy, confirming the company's ability to originate and advance high-quality renewable projects from concept to construction readiness. He described it as a tremendous achievement by the team and partners.
Maggie McKenna, Director and COO, expressed pride in achieving this important milestone for the Dolcy project, particularly given the challenging and ever-evolving regulatory environment in the province.
