Vantage Data Centers has announced a USD 1.6 billion investment to scale its Asia-Pacific operations, with the funding led by affiliates of GIC and the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority (ADIA), both existing backers of the company. The substantial investment will support the acquisition of Yondr Group's 300MW+ hyperscale data center campus in Johor, Malaysia, and provide additional capital for further regional growth.

Strategic Acquisition in Malaysia

The centerpiece of this expansion is the acquisition of the Johor site, located in the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone. The campus spans nearly 73 acres and will be known as JHB1. Once fully developed, it will deliver more than 300MW of IT capacity across three advanced data centers. The Johor location offers dark fiber connectivity to nearby markets and incorporates sustainability-focused features such as direct-to-chip liquid cooling.

The campus is on track to meet EDGE certification standards and was initially financed through a green loan, aligning with Vantage's broader commitment to environmentally responsible infrastructure.

Regional Market Position

Johor is emerging as a key data center hub in Southeast Asia, benefiting from its proximity to Singapore, competitive costs, and government incentives. The acquisition will expand Vantage's APAC footprint to 1GW of operational and planned capacity across Australia, Malaysia, Japan, Taiwan, and Hong Kong. The investment follows Vantage's recent growth momentum and underscores rising demand for digital infrastructure in the region, driven by AI and cloud computing adoption.

With the support of GIC, ADIA, and DigitalBridge, one of its largest investors, Vantage, aims to strengthen its position as a leading provider of sustainable, large-scale data center solutions for global AI and cloud providers.
