Vantage Data Centers announced on Tuesday that it will spend more than USD 25 billion to build a 1,200-acre data center campus in Shackelford County, Texas, as surging demand for artificial intelligence infrastructure fuels mega-scale developments.

The campus, dubbed “Frontier,” will feature a 1.4-gigawatt capacity and represents the largest facility in Vantage's global portfolio. Construction of the campus has already begun, with plans to house 10 data centers designed to support ultra-high-density racks exceeding 250 kilowatts each. The first building is scheduled for completion in the second half of next year.

The massive development spans 1,200 acres in Shackelford County, positioning it as one of the most significant data center projects in response to growing AI infrastructure demands.

Private equity firm Silver Lake and asset manager DigitalBridge back Vantage Data Centers. Silver Lake has a long history with the company, having been a founding investor in Vantage in 2010. After exiting Vantage in 2017, Silver Lake was invited back on a proprietary basis in 2023 to support capital raising efforts. The investment partnership culminated in Silver Lake co-leading a USD 9.2 billion equity financing with DigitalBridge in 2024.

This significant financial backing enables the ambitious Texas project and demonstrates the scale of investment flowing into AI infrastructure development.
