Vantage Data Centers announced a USD 2 billion investment to develop a new hyperscale data center campus in the Fredericksburg region of Virginia. The company made the announcement on November 6, 2025, from its Denver headquarters.

Campus Development and Specifications

The new campus, designated VA4, will deliver 192MW of capacity in the Fredericksburg region. Located in Stafford County, the facility sits just over an hour from Vantage's three existing Virginia campuses in Data Center Alley. The campus will span 82 acres and house three data centers totaling approximately 929,000 square feet. Development of the campus is expected to create 1,100 construction jobs and at least 50 permanent operations jobs.

The first building is scheduled to open in late 2027. VA4 will be built to achieve LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Silver certification and will align with Vantage's “sustainable by design” blueprint. The campus will operate with a closed-loop chilled water system that minimizes the need for large volumes of water for cooling and supports Vantage's industry-leading low water usage effectiveness (WUE). The facility will feature liquid-to-liquid cooling with CDU-based equipment capable of handling 100% of IT workloads.

Virginia Market Expansion

This campus represents Vantage's fourth data center facility in Virginia, bringing the company's statewide capacity to 782MW with a combined investment of approximately USD 8 billion. Vantage first entered the Virginia market in 2017, and Virginia has served as a cornerstone of the company's North American growth. Dana Adams, president of North America for Vantage Data Centers, explained the strategic rationale for the Fredericksburg location.

“The Fredericksburg region offered a significant opportunity for Vantage to serve our customers seeking capacity and access to the resources of Data Center Alley without being in the high congestion zone,” Adams said.

Groundbreaking Ceremony and Local Support

Vantage and its general contractor, DPR Construction, hosted a groundbreaking celebration featuring several prominent local officials. Attendees included Luis Lopez Stipes, Deputy Secretary of Commerce and Trade for the Commonwealth of Virginia; Meg Bohmke, Falmouth Supervisor for Stafford County; and Don Slaiman, Director of Community Relations for IBEW Local 26.

Darrell English, Hartwood District Stafford County Board of Supervisor, expressed support for the project. “Vantage Data Centers will create hundreds of jobs and support Stafford's growing reputation as a technology hub across the Commonwealth,” English said. “This project brings advanced infrastructure that powers the technologies we rely on more and more every day, while strengthening our local economy and business community.”

Community Impact and Workforce Development

The VA4 campus is positioned to serve as a catalyst for regional growth by creating new employment opportunities, driving investment in local businesses, and strengthening the area's tax base. Beyond the direct economic impact, Vantage plans to establish lasting partnerships with local organizations to support workforce development and community initiatives.

The company intends to collaborate with schools, general contractors, workforce boards, and civic organizations to help prepare residents for careers in the skilled trades and technology sectors, while contributing to the region's overall vitality. Adams noted that the expansion will help establish the Fredericksburg region as a meaningful digital hub while contributing to the area's economic growth and technological advancements.
