Trina Storage (BESS manufacturer) has completed shipment and site delivery of a 40MW/160.48MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) in Romania, marking the first deployment in Europe of its Elementa plus Electra integrated DC and AC solution architecture.

Project Location and Scope

The Gamma Battery Energy Storage System project is located in Izvoarele, Giurgiu County, Romania, and is being delivered for client LSG. Systems arrived on site in April 2026, with installation activities now underway.

The project is scheduled for commissioning in the third quarter of 2026. The utility-scale system integrates 32 units of Trina Storage's Elementa 2 Pro battery storage system together with four Electra AC units.

Architecture and Technology

The Gamma project represents the first European deployment of Trina Storage's Elementa plus Electra integrated DC and AC solution architecture, and the company described it as a further step in its expansion toward more integrated cell-to-AC storage solution capabilities.

Elementa 2 Pro is Trina Storage's vertically integrated utility-scale liquid-cooled energy storage system. It is built with 314Ah cells and carries a container-level capacity of 5.015MWh. The system is designed to support high energy density and efficient deployment at utility scale.

Electra functions as the AC-side companion unit, combining power conversion and medium-voltage step-up functions within a single integrated package. The combination of Elementa 2 Pro and Electra is intended to enable more coordinated DC and AC system performance and to streamline grid connection for utility-scale energy storage applications.

Intended Applications

The Gamma BESS project has been designed to support a range of grid services, including ancillary services, wholesale market arbitrage, load balancing, and renewable energy integration. Trina Storage stated that the project is expected to contribute to increased grid flexibility and to support Romania's accelerating renewable energy transition.

The company pointed to continuing growth in renewable energy deployment across Romania and Southeast Europe as a driver of rising demand for grid-balancing infrastructure and flexible storage capacity. Utility-scale battery storage, according to Trina Storage, is expected to play a critical role in supporting grid stability, renewable integration, and electricity market optimization across the region.

Logistics and Project Execution

Trina Storage highlighted the Gamma project as a demonstration of its delivery and execution capabilities across complex European project environments. The company noted that the project involved multi-country logistics coordination, local compliance procedures, and integrated project support. Systems were shipped and delivered to the Romanian site, with installation proceeding following their arrival in April 2026.

Statements from Project Partners

Gabriele Buccini, Head of Trina Storage Europe, described the completion of delivery as an important milestone for the company in Europe. "As energy storage markets continue to expand across Europe, we are seeing growing demand for integrated Cell-to-AC and bankable storage solutions capable of supporting long-term grid flexibility and renewable integration," Buccini said.

Gerhard Lipkovich, CEO of LSG Building Solutions SLR, Romania, explained the rationale behind selecting Trina Storage for the project. "LSG selected Trina Storage for this landmark project as part of its broader commitment to advancing reliable and future-oriented energy infrastructure in the region," Lipkovich said. "The collaboration will help support renewable energy integration while contributing to greater grid resilience and long-term energy transition objectives."

Context Within Trina Storage's European Expansion

Trina Storage described the Gamma project as further strengthening its global energy storage presence. The company identified the project as illustrative of the growing role of integrated storage solutions in supporting grid flexibility, renewable integration, and the evolving needs of modern power systems.

The Romanian deployment follows Trina Storage's participation in the Energy Storage Summit London 2026, where the company presented its fully integrated storage solutions to the European market.

The project also signals continued momentum in southeastern Europe's energy storage sector as countries in the region increase investment in infrastructure capable of accommodating higher shares of variable renewable generation on their grids.

Powering Smarter Decisions Across Romania's Power Sector

Every megawatt of opportunity in Romania's evolving power landscape comes with a narrow window, and the teams that act on intelligence first are the ones winning contracts, forming the right partnerships, and positioning ahead of major infrastructure cycles.

The Global Project Tracking (GPT) platform by Blackridge Research gives power professionals a structured, continuously updated view of project activity across energy, power, and transmission networks throughout Romania. From early pipeline visibility to post-award analysis, the platform is built to keep your team one step ahead at every stage.

Whether you are monitoring regulatory-driven investment programs, tracking competitors, or identifying where procurement activity is heating up, the GPT platform consolidates what would otherwise take weeks of research into a single, searchable intelligence layer your entire team can act on.
