Topsoe Selected to Provide Green Ammonia Technology for U.S. Production Facility
Synergen Green Energy has chosen Topsoe as the technology licensor for its green ammonia plants to be built in the United States. The partnership will see Topsoe deliver its dynamic ammonia loop technology and proprietary catalysts and equipment to the standardized plants, with a designed capacity of 210,000 metric tons per year upon full operation.
Subject to a final investment decision, the first facility is expected to be operational by Q4 2028. Topsoe, a leading global provider of advanced technology and solutions for the energy transition, announced the selection on November 4, 2025.
Production Capacity and Environmental Impact
The first project, when operational, will produce 210,000 metric tons of ammonia annually and avoid approximately 400,000 tons of CO2 emissions. This reduction is equivalent to removing around 95,000 gasoline-powered passenger cars from the road for one year.
The ammonia will be produced using renewable electricity and exported to the market. The production represents a significant contribution to the availability of green fuel in the United States market.
Executive Statements on Partnership
Henrik Rasmussen, Managing Director of Topsoe Americas, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration. "We're thrilled that Synergen selected Topsoe to collaborate on their impressive next-generation ammonia projects," Rasmussen said. "Green ammonia will add to the diversification of the fuel sources available to industry. We look forward to working with the talented team from Synergen."
Synergen Green Energy CEO Pranav Tanti emphasized the significance of the partnership for the emerging green fuels industry. "Green fuels are the beginning of a new era for the world," Tanti stated. "We are excited to partner with a renowned company like Topsoe for their innovative synloop technology that adapts to intermittent power supply. This nascent industry needs partnerships to forge the way ahead and make green fuel projects economically viable and green ammonia globally competitive. We, at Synergen, remain committed to this cause and look forward to a long-term and successful relationship with Topsoe."

Dynamic Ammonia Technology Features
Topsoe's dynamic ammonia technology adapts the production output of green ammonia to fluctuations in the supply of renewable electricity. The dynamic ammonia process plant enables the ramping up and down of ammonia production bidirectionally at a rate of at least 3% per minute in response to the fluctuating supply of hydrogen to the ammonia plant.
The technology provides significant reduction in capital expenditure and operational expenditure since hydrogen storage systems can be reduced substantially, or otherwise eliminated. The system allows renewable electricity to be stored in a zero-carbon chemical form.
Market Context and Applications
Ammonia, whether in the form of e-fuel (green ammonia) or low-carbon ammonia (blue ammonia), is expected to play a critical role in the energy transition. The fuel can be transported using existing ammonia infrastructure and has multiple end uses, not only as a fuel or hydrogen carrier but also to help decarbonize industrial processes such as steel and cement production.
