Over the next five years, EDP Renewables plans to invest £660 million in onshore wind and solar in the United Kingdom. The investment comes after the firm purchased 544MW of onshore wind and solar projects in July, according to the company.
According to EDPR, the company is aggressively looking for new prospects in this sector, with 200MW of wind projects now being discussed with local partners.
The corporation intends to spend a total of £12.86 billion, on top of the £2.65 billion it has committed to its Ocean Winds offshore wind joint venture with Engie for the Moray East and Moray West projects.
Following the completion of Moray West, the project is estimated to require £2.2 billion in further capital expenditures over the next three to four years.
Ocean Winds is also awaiting the outcome of ScotWind, the offshore leasing round in Scottish waters, where it filed bids for up to 9GW of capacity for both fixed and floating projects.
Between a fixed project and a floating project, the business is aiming for a minimum of 3.9GW. Both projects would have a capex of £10 billion.
”These plans to invest up to £13bn by 2030 underscore our commitment to the United Kingdom – a strategic market for the growth of the group,” said EDPR CEO Miguel Stilwell d'Andrade.
