Swedish energy company Tavion has started construction of its first battery energy storage parks in Poland, six months after the company launched. Work began on a 20 MW park in Bydgoszcz, in the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship, with a second park in Luboń set to break ground within two weeks and a third to follow.
Construction Begins in Bydgoszcz
The Bydgoszcz park is a two-hour system with 20 MW of grid connection and 40 MWh of installed storage. Poland has one of Europe's fastest-growing storage markets but almost no grid-connected batteries in operation, putting Tavion among the first companies to build at this scale in the country.
Financing and Grid Connection
The parks are financed through the 56 million in equity and debt that Tavion raised in September, and will connect to the Enea Operator distribution grid. According to the company, land, grid connection, and permits were secured before the financing closed, allowing two projects to start at once rather than sequentially.
"We had land, grid connection and permits in place before the financing closed, which is why we can start two projects at once rather than one after another. Poland needs more flexibility in its grid now, and every month we save on the way to operation counts," said Emad Zand, CEO of Tavion.

Delivery Partners on Site
Tavion was joined at the Bydgoszcz site by Enea Operator, balance of plant contractor Esix Polska, BESS integrator HyperStrong and owner's engineer Ayesa. The company was represented by CEO Emad Zand, Chief Development Officer Katarzyna Suchcicka and COO Mathieu Beunier.
"Poland is adding renewables faster than it can store them. These parks will not close that gap, but they are among the first batteries in the country to actually be built. From here it is about delivery: grid connection in 2027, together with Esix Polska and Enea Operator," said Suchcicka, who is also Country Head Poland at Tavion.
A Wider Polish Pipeline
The two projects are part of a 184 MW portfolio that Tavion has at or close to ready-to-build stage in Poland, sitting within a wider project pipeline of 1.7 GW in the country. Tavion identifies demand for storage in Poland as driven by a rising share of renewables, the coal phase-out and high price volatility.
