Tata Steel has inaugurated the Phase II expansion of its Kalinganagar steel plant, increasing the annual capacity of the facility from 3 to 8 million tonnes. The expansion, which was inaugurated by Hon'ble Chief Minister of Odisha Shri Mohan Charan Majhi, is a result of an investment of INR 27,000 crore (USD 3.17 billion) . The state-of-the-art facility will target advanced high-strength steels for sectors like automotive, infrastructure, power, shipbuilding, and defence.

Expansion Details

The expanded facility includes a new blast furnace, the largest in the country with a volume of 5,870 m3, equipped with state-of-the-art features for long campaign life and an eco-friendly design. Other key facilities in the Phase II expansion include a Pellet Plant, Coke Plant, and Cold Rolling Mill, each incorporating advanced technologies and sustainable practices.

T. V. Narendran, CEO and Managing Director, Tata Steel, stated that Kalinganagar is more than a manufacturing site for the company, symbolizing what is possible when communities, government, and industry work together. He expressed the company's deep belief in Odisha's potential and long-term commitment to the state.
