The Government of Tajikistan and Ayon Energy LLC signed an investment agreement on January 13 to build and commission two major photovoltaic power plants, marking the country's first large-scale solar energy initiative with a total installed capacity of 500 MW.

Project Details and Location

According to the State Committee on Investments and State Property Management, the project will consist of two 250 MW solar plants to be constructed in Asht and Jayhun districts. This represents the first large-scale solar energy project in Tajikistan's history and is designed to open a new stage in the country's development of green energy and modern energy infrastructure.

The investor has committed to completing the design, construction, and commissioning of both plants by 2026. The total investment volume for the project is estimated at 250 million US dollars.

Government Policy and Presidential Directives

The project is being implemented in line with tasks outlined by the President of Tajikistan in his address to the Majlisi Oli. The initiative also forms part of state programs specifically designed to promote renewable energy development within the country.

This solar energy project directly implements presidential directives and aligns with the government's broader renewable energy strategy.

Expected Energy System Benefits

The solar plants are expected to deliver multiple benefits to Tajikistan's energy infrastructure and supply reliability. The project aims to strengthen the country's energy independence while addressing seasonal electricity shortages, particularly during winter months when demand typically increases.

The new solar capacity is designed to lower the load on the national energy system and ensure a more stable electricity supply for both the population and the broader economy. These improvements are intended to address current energy supply challenges and create a more resilient power grid.

Strategic Significance for National Development

The project is viewed as a major step for Tajikistan toward green energy development, sustainable economic growth, and an environmentally clean future. The initiative is positioned to lay a solid foundation for the country's long-term energy independence goals.

This solar energy development represents a significant shift in Tajikistan's energy portfolio and marks the beginning of large-scale renewable energy infrastructure development. The project's scale and investment level indicate a substantial commitment to transforming the country's energy sector through modern, sustainable technology.
