Suzlon Secures 100 MW Wind Project from GAIL, Marking Sixth Repeat Order
Renewable energy major Suzlon Group announced on Tuesday that it has secured a 100 MW wind energy project from Gas Authority of India Ltd (GAIL), representing its sixth repeat order from the public sector undertaking its fourth public sector contract in FY26. The project will be executed in Nandurbar district of Maharashtra and is aimed at supporting the decarbonisation of GAIL's upcoming petrochemical plant.
Project Technical Specifications
Suzlon will install 47 S120 wind turbine generators for the project, with each turbine having a rated capacity of 2.1 MW. The company will handle the complete project lifecycle, including supply, erection, commissioning and post-installation operations and maintenance services. This comprehensive approach demonstrates Suzlon's full-service capabilities in wind energy project development.

Strategic Partnership and Public Sector Growth
The latest order underlines Suzlon's growing traction in the public sector segment, where it has been strengthening its presence with repeat business from key state-run firms. According to Ajay Kapur, CEO of Suzlon Group, the order builds on a long-standing partnership with GAIL spanning over 15 years, with projects already executed across Gujarat, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. The Maharashtra project marks the first collaboration between the two entities in the state.
The company noted that this is its fourth PSU order in the current financial year, following contracts from NTPC, BPCL and others. This trend indicates Suzlon's successful penetration into the public sector renewable energy market and its ability to secure repeat business from established clients.
Maharashtra Wind Energy Leadership
Suzlon currently has over 2.2 GW of installed wind energy capacity in Maharashtra, accounting for around 38% of the state's total wind capacity. This substantial presence reinforces the company's leadership position in one of India's key renewable energy hubs. The new 100 MW project will further strengthen Suzlon's foothold in the state's wind energy sector.
India's Clean Energy Targets and Market Context
The order comes amid India's accelerating push towards clean energy to meet its climate commitments. The country has set a target of achieving 500 GW of non-fossil fuel capacity by 2030 and net-zero emissions by 2070, driving demand for renewable projects across wind, solar and hybrid segments.
Wind energy is expected to play a critical role in diversifying India's energy mix and ensuring grid stability, alongside solar power. Increased participation from PSUs and industrial players in sourcing green energy is seen as a key driver in scaling up capacity while reducing carbon footprints across sectors.
The GAIL project specifically supports the decarbonisation efforts of the company's upcoming petrochemical plant, reflecting the broader industrial shift towards renewable energy sources to meet sustainability goals and regulatory requirements.
