Sungrow, the global provider of inverters and energy storage systems, has been selected to equip Project Blue, Albania's largest privately developed solar park, with a battery energy storage system of 130 MWh.

Installation of Battery Energy Storage System at Project Blue

The agreement covers the installation of a BESS at the solar park, which has a peak capacity of 185 MW and is located in Fier in western Albania. The project does not benefit from any government subsidies.

The deal concerns 26 PowerTitan 2.0 battery units and 13 MVS3460-LS units. According to the company's announcement, Sungrow's liquid-cooled BESS solution enhances grid flexibility and facilitates the integration of renewable power.

Ownership and Development Structure

Project Blue is jointly owned and developed by Albania-based Matrix Konstruksion and Blessed Investment Group. The two companies have been expanding the Project Blue photovoltaic complex in Fier in phases.

Matrix Konstruksion was founded in Tirana in 1995 and delivers turnkey construction and energy projects. Blessed Investment Group has transitioned from advisory toward principal investing, and over the past two decades it has developed a portfolio that includes renewable energy, real estate, and tourism.

Expansion Plans for the Complex

Project Blue is set to expand by 164 MW of PV peak capacity and an 80 MW battery storage system in its next phase. The company stated that the next phase will add 164 MW of solar capacity in peak terms along with an 80 MW / 180 MWh battery system.

Commenting on the project, Country Manager of Sungrow Italy Massimo Bracchi said, "Project Blue demonstrates how strong partnerships, innovative technology, and a clear vision can accelerate renewable energy deployment at scale. It will support Albania's clean energy transition, strengthen independence, and help meet the growing demand for clean electricity across the region."

Sungrow's Global Footprint

As of June 2026, Sungrow has installed over 1.1 TW of power electronic converters worldwide. The company supplies energy storage systems and inverters globally, and the Project Blue deal marks its involvement in Albania's largest privately developed solar park.

Broader Regional Context

The announcement comes amid a wave of renewable energy activity across Southeast Europe. On the same day, an EU-backed 650 MW cross-border wind project between Ukraine and Romania was added to the EU's List of Renewable Energy Cross-border Projects, with the wind farm set to supply electricity to Romania.

In Turkey, a record was broken in August with an output of 9.9 TWh of combined solar and wind power, according to Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar, as the country strives for energy independence.

In Romania, renewable energy associations have called for cutting the financial guarantee for standalone battery projects from USD 33,807 to USD 5,634 per MW. North Macedonia, meanwhile, is preparing projects to improve geological research and better utilize geothermal resources and critical raw materials, aiming to map its geothermal potential more precisely.
