Sungrow Deutschland GmbH and be.storaged GmbH have signed a framework agreement to expand their collaboration on large-scale battery energy storage projects in Germany, with the partnership targeting a planned pipeline of 1.6 GWh of storage capacity over the next two years.

A Formalised Long-Term Partnership

The announced agreement from Munich and Oldenburg, places the two companies' existing cooperation on a new formal footing. The framework defines the key principles governing their future collaboration across the entire project development process, from planning and procurement through to construction, commissioning, and operational support. The stated aim of the framework is to make battery storage projects more efficient to deliver by standardising processes, coordinating technical solutions, and enabling early joint planning.

According to both parties, these measures are designed to accelerate project execution while reducing coordination requirements and feedback loops between the two organisations. Dr Magnus Pielke, Managing Director of be.storaged, said the agreement goes beyond a basis for implementing individual projects. "Together with Sungrow, we are establishing a long-term partnership that will enable us to standardise BESS projects at gigawatt-hour scale and bring them to market even faster in the future," he said. Pielke added that the agreement creates structured feedback loops between project development, plant operation, and technology development, allowing insights from planning, construction, and operation to feed directly into future storage solutions.

He described this as an essential prerequisite for industrialising the operation of growing storage fleets and unlocking synergies in plant management. Moritz Rolf, Vice President and Regional Manager for DACH, Benelux, Nordics, and Turkey at Sungrow Europe, said the cooperation is founded on trust, technical expertise, and a shared understanding of the technical requirements of the German energy storage market. "With the framework agreement, we are establishing the basis for even closer collaboration on future projects, efficiently bringing innovative storage technologies to market, and strengthening the energy transition in Germany," he said.

Distinct Roles Across the Project Lifecycle

The two companies bring complementary capabilities to the partnership. be.storaged operates as a specialised engineering, procurement, and construction service provider, taking responsibility for the development, planning, procurement, construction, and commissioning of battery storage projects, as well as their ongoing operational support.

Sungrow, described in the announcement as an internationally leading provider of battery energy storage systems, power electronics, and related service solutions, contributes technology and manufacturing expertise to the collaboration. Together, the companies say customers benefit from their accumulated experience and from greater reliability in the planning and implementation of future storage projects.

The structured cooperation is also intended to lay the foundation for greater project standardisation and to enable closer technical coordination from the earliest phases of each project.

PowerTitan 3.0 to Feature in Future Deployments

A central element of the partnership involves the continued development and deployment of storage technology. Sungrow has indicated it will increasingly deploy its PowerTitan 3.0 large-scale battery storage system across future joint projects. The PowerTitan 3.0 is housed in a 20-foot container and integrates a 1.78 MW power conversion system with 7.14 MWh of battery capacity. The system is scalable up to 28.5 MWh.

According to the announcement, the framework agreement provides the organisational and technical structure for integrating such technological innovations into joint projects at an early stage, allowing new developments to be adopted more rapidly as the pipeline progresses.

1.6 GWh Target Aimed at Grid Flexibility

The planned total volume of up to 1.6 GWh across the joint project pipeline is described by both companies as a meaningful contribution to integrating renewable energy into the German power system. The projects are intended to provide greater flexibility in the power system at a time when the energy transition is placing increasing demands on grid infrastructure. The announcement frames battery storage as a necessary tool for making renewable energy available whenever it is needed, and positions the expanded partnership as a direct response to those demands.

Both companies indicated that closer collaboration will also allow them to respond earlier to changes in market conditions and regulatory requirements in Germany. The two-year timeframe for the 1.6 GWh pipeline reflects the scale of ambition behind the agreement, as the partners move from project-by-project cooperation toward what they describe as an industrialised model of battery storage delivery.

The framework also opens the door to developing additional business potential across the battery storage value chain and expanding into adjacent areas, according to Pielke.

Powering Smarter Decisions Across Europe's Energy Landscape

With Europe's power sector undergoing its most significant transformation in decades, staying ahead of project activity is no longer a competitive advantage, it's a baseline requirement. From offshore wind expansions in the North Sea to grid modernisation programmes spanning the continent, the volume and complexity of developments demand a smarter approach to intelligence.
