Sterling and Wilson Renewable Energy Limited has announced the award of new orders totalling over USD 1.04 billion, encompassing a domestic solar project in Rajasthan and two battery energy storage system projects in South Africa.
Domestic Order: 534.3 MWp Balance of System in India's Rajasthan
The domestic component of the order win involves a 534.3 megawatt-peak project in Rajasthan, awarded by a new customer. The scope of work covers a Balance of System package, which typically encompasses the electrical and mechanical components of a solar installation outside of the panels themselves.
According to the company's press release, the Rajasthan project is expected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 0.80 million tonnes upon commissioning.
The award from a new customer is notable, as it signals an expansion of Sterling and Wilson Renewable Energy's domestic client base at a time when India's utility-scale solar sector continues to scale rapidly. Rajasthan has been one of the primary destinations for large-scale solar development in India given its high irradiance levels and availability of land.
International Order: 616 MWh BESS Turnkey EPC in South Africa
The international portion of the announcement covers two Battery Energy Storage System projects in South Africa with a combined capacity of 616 megawatt-hours. The order is structured as a turnkey engineering, procurement, and construction wrap project, meaning Sterling and Wilson Renewable Energy will carry responsibility across the full project delivery chain.
Unlike the Rajasthan contract, the South Africa order comes from a repeat customer. The company noted that the returning client's decision to award the project reflects confidence built through prior engagements with Sterling and Wilson Renewable Energy. The company described the South Africa project as a marquee assignment in its press release dated September 22.
Battery energy storage has emerged as a critical component of energy transition strategies globally, particularly in markets such as South Africa, where grid reliability has been a persistent challenge. A 616 MWh deployment represents a substantial undertaking and positions Sterling and Wilson Renewable Energy among the participants in the continent's growing storage infrastructure buildout.

Leadership Comment on Order Significance
Chandra Kishore Thakur, Global CEO of Sterling and Wilson Renewable Energy, commented on the dual order wins, describing them as reinforcing business momentum and reflecting the confidence customers place in the company's capabilities. He attributed the award wins to what he characterized as consistent project execution, domain expertise, and the skilled workforce the company has developed over time.
Thakur also pointed to the strength of the company's customer relationships as a key factor behind securing both contracts, noting that the South Africa order in particular was rooted in an established relationship with a repeat client.
Context for the Order Wins
Sterling and Wilson Renewable Energy, listed as SWREL, operates across both domestic and international markets as an engineering, procurement, and construction contractor focused on renewable energy projects.
The latest order wins span two distinct segments, utility-scale solar and battery storage, and cover two geographies simultaneously, reflecting a spread of activity across the company's business lines.
The Rajasthan project adds to the substantial pipeline of solar capacity being developed across India's northwestern states, where state and central government policies have driven concentrated investment.
The South Africa order extends the company's footprint on the African continent, where energy storage projects have attracted growing interest from developers and utilities seeking to complement intermittent renewable generation with dispatchable capacity.
The combined order value of over USD 1.04 billion represents a meaningful addition to the company's order book, and the geographic and technological diversity of the two contracts underscores the range of project types Sterling and Wilson Renewable Energy is pursuing as part of its growth strategy.
