SSE Renewables has unveiled plans to repower its Kingsmountain and Dunneill Wind Farms in County Sligo with a new 100MW onshore development the - “Crumhach Wind Farm”. This new project will replace the existing wind farms, which are approaching the end of their operational lifespans, and significantly boost renewable energy output in the region.
Project Overview
The Crumhach Wind Farm will consist of:
Up to 17 new, modern turbines
A new onsite substation
Use of existing wind farm roads and grid infrastructure
The project will nearly triple the renewable energy generation of the current combined 36MW capacity at Kingsmountain and Dunneill with an installed capacity of up to 100MW.
Community Impact
SSE Renewables' wind farms have already delivered over €650,000 in community funding since 2004. The Crumhach Wind Farm will:
Support up to 100 construction jobs at peak
Sustain 2–3 long-term operational roles
Extend the community benefit fund, continuing support for local initiatives
Public Engagement
To ensure transparency and community involvement, public consultation events will be held on:
July 23rd and 24th in-person
Virtual consultation from July 23rd to September 3rd via SSE’s project website
SSE Renewables is committed to working closely with local communities and stakeholders ahead of a planning submission in 2026.
