SPIE Global Services Energy has been awarded a significant contract to complete cable termination and testing work on the final phase of the Dogger Bank Wind Farm, which will become the world's largest offshore wind farm when completed in 2026.

The contract, awarded by DEME, involves SPIE Wind Connect carrying out termination and testing of 66kV inter-array cables (IACs) for the remaining 87 wind turbine generators, marking the final phase of the Dogger Bank Wind Farm project. This award follows SPIE Wind Connect's successful completion of similar work on Dogger Bank A and Dogger Bank B phases.

Project Scale and Location

Dogger Bank Wind Farm is located more than 130km off the North-east coast of England in the North Sea. The project is being delivered in three 1.2 GW phases: Dogger Bank A and B, each with 95 turbines, and Dogger Bank C, with 87 turbines. When fully operational, the wind farm will have a total capacity of 3.6GW.

The project is a joint venture between SSE Renewables (40%), Equinor (40%), and Vårgrønn (20%). SSE Renewables is leading on construction and delivery across all three phases, while Equinor will operate the wind farm throughout its anticipated 35-year lifetime.

Turbine Technology and Power Generation

The project will feature GE's Haliade-X offshore wind turbines, described as the most powerful in operation today. Dogger Bank will be the first offshore windfarm in the world to install the Haliade-X 13MW and 14MW models. Each turbine can generate up to 14MW of power, with a single blade rotation capable of powering a UK home for more than two days.

When fully operational in 2026, Dogger Bank will be able to supply renewable electricity to 6 million UK homes. The project represents a major milestone in advancing the UK's Net Zero ambitions.
