Sonnedix, a global renewable energy company with 12 GW of total capacity, has acquired two solar PV assets in Italy totalling 54 MW from EOS ReNewable Infrastructure Fund II, which is managed by EOS IM.
The transaction was announced on 7 October 2026 and increases Sonnedix's operational portfolio in Italy to more than 1.3GW, strengthening the company's position in one of Europe's fastest-growing energy markets.
Operational Solar Projects in Italy
The two projects are fully operational and delivering clean, reliable solar energy to the Italian grid. Macchiareddu, at 46.5MW, is located in the Province of Cagliari in Sardinia, while Aprilia, at 7.5MW, is located in the Province of Latina in Lazio.
Italy as a Core Market
Italy is described by Sonnedix as a core market, where the company continues to grow through acquisitions and development while enhancing its portfolio through investments in hybridisation and battery energy storage systems (BESS).
The announcement follows a recent transaction in the Italian storage sector. In July, Sonnedix announced the acquisition of a 260MW BESS portfolio in Tuscania, a transaction that the company says underscores its commitment to building a more resilient and flexible grid in Southern Europe.

Company Commentary
Mario Volpe, Chief Growth Officer at Sonnedix, said the acquisition builds on the strong pipeline of growth the company has developed in Italy over the past year and represents a clear step forward in its strategy to expand operational capacity in the country.
Volpe also noted that the relationship with EOS is genuine and has already demonstrated real value through the speed and quality of the transaction, expressing gratitude for the trust and confidence placed in Sonnedix and reiterating the company's commitment to continuing to grow its portfolio in Italy.
Giuseppe Maronna, Managing Director, Italy, said operations in Italy have accelerated in 2026. According to Maronna, milestones celebrated this year alone include surpassing 1GW of operating capacity, expanding battery storage capabilities, and securing a significant volume share in Italy's Energy Release 2.0 mechanism.
He added that there is far more to come from the Italian portfolio and that the acquisition is a testament to the company's continued progress.
