Senheng Electric (KL) Sdn. Bhd., a Malaysia-based consumer electronics retailer, has partnered with clean energy provider Progressture Power Sdn Bhd to expand solar energy offerings into East Malaysia. The collaboration enables homeowners to access residential solar and battery energy storage systems through 20 Senheng and senQ outlets in Sabah and Sarawak.

The duo announced the partnership in a statement on Tuesday, emphasizing their commitment to making clean energy more accessible and reliable, particularly for communities that frequently face power supply challenges.

Product Offerings and Installation Services

Through the partnership, homeowners can choose from three distinct options: solar-only systems, battery energy storage systems (BESS)-only backup, or combined solar-and-BESS packages with hybrid inverters. All packages are tailored to East Malaysia's policy frameworks and household needs. Progressture Solar, described as a clean energy provider with deep experience in residential, commercial, industrial, and utility-scale solar deployment, handles the installation and support for these systems.

The company brings extensive expertise across multiple solar deployment sectors to the partnership.

Government Support and Incentive Programs

The rollout comes at a strategic time as government support mechanisms are evolving across Malaysia. In Peninsular Malaysia, homeowners previously enjoyed rebates of up to MYR 4,000 (USD 949) under the Solar for Rakyat Incentive Scheme (SolaRIS), which ended on April 30, 2025. Sarawak homeowners now have access to enhanced support through a new Net Energy Metering (NEM) subsidy.

From 2026, Sarawak Energy will provide a subsidy of up to MYR 12,000 (USD 2,847) for residential solar system installations, significantly reducing adoption costs. The subsidy applies to successful NEM installations starting in 2026. The NEM system enables households to export excess solar energy back to the grid, offsetting their electricity bills and providing additional financial benefits beyond the initial subsidy.

In Sabah, residents benefit from the Self-Consumption (SELCO) scheme, which enables them to directly use the solar energy they generate. The addition of BESS allows homeowners to store solar power for later use, offering greater energy independence. For increased flexibility, homeowners can opt for BESS-only solutions that store grid energy for emergency use, which is particularly critical in a state where blackouts can affect entire districts.

Leadership Perspectives and Strategic Vision

Lim Kim Heng, Managing Director of Senheng, emphasized the company's commitment to accessibility across Malaysia. “At Senheng, we believe that solar energy should be simple, accessible, and beneficial to all Malaysians, not just those in big cities,” he said. “This partnership with Progressture Solar helps us reach more East Malaysian communities and offer them a practical solution to frequent grid challenges. It's part of our commitment to sustainability and delivering long-term value to our customers.”

Cliff Siaw, Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Progressture Solar, highlighted the alignment with the regional leadership vision. “Premier Abang Johari's vision of turning Sarawak into a clean energy powerhouse is truly inspiring,” he stated. “With strong government support through Net Energy Metering (NEM) and Self-Consumption (SELCO), and the urgent need for more reliable electricity in Sabah and Sarawak, this is the right moment to expand solar access.

By making solar affordable and dependable, we're helping more Malaysians take part in the clean energy movement.”

National and Regional Energy Transition Alignment

The initiative supports Malaysia's national energy transition goals of achieving a 40 percent renewable energy mix by 2035 and net-zero emissions by 2050. The partnership also aligns with Sarawak's Energy Transition Policy (SET-P), which emphasizes renewable energy adoption and decarbonization to drive sustainable growth. As East Malaysia advances clean energy innovation through hydrogen and hydropower development, the partnership ensures households participate in the transition.

By bringing proven solar solutions to homes across Sabah and Sarawak, the collaboration enables more Malaysians to participate in the shift toward a low-carbon future. The collaboration reflects both companies' strategic positioning in Malaysia's evolving energy landscape, addressing both reliability challenges and sustainability objectives across East Malaysian communities.
