ScottishPower Energy Networks (SPEN), a subsidiary of Iberdrola, has announced a EUR 262 million investment to upgrade the electricity distribution network across Scotland and North West England. The funding forms part of the company’s broader strategy to support electrification, job creation, and supply chain development in the UK.

The investment will support the modernization of over 20,000 kilometers of grid infrastructure through extended contracts with six specialist overhead line companies. The upgrades will be carried out over the next four years and align with the UK’s Electricity Distribution (ED2) business plan for 2023–2028, paving the way for the future ED3 framework.

This initiative underlines SPEN’s role in helping the UK achieve its net-zero targets. By modernizing grid infrastructure, the company aims to enable a cleaner and more efficient energy system while contributing to regional economic growth.

A company spokesperson highlighted the investment as part of a long-term vision to "support innovation, sustainability, and supply chain resilience within the UK energy sector."

ScottishPower’s commitment reinforces its position as a key player in the UK’s energy transition, enhancing grid reliability and capacity in support of future electrification needs.
